Point leaders come up short at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 8, 2023) – Saturday night was a difficult night for the points leaders in the various divisions at Off Road Speedway. Primarily due to issues beyond their control, which forced exits from the racing surface to the pits, none of those drivers finished anywhere near contention for a spot among the top three during the feature races in any of the five divisions. Those circumstances, with just seven nights of points racing remaining this season, leaves the competition for track championships wide open. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Late Model feature, for example, Cory Dumpert was forced to leave the track twice with fuel system problems, ending a performance that had the Newman Grove driver battling for the lead with Dylan Schmer for much of the race. Rick races to a share of history Sunday at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 9, 2023) – It took Lukas Rick a little longer than normal to get there, but by night’s end he again stood victorious in victory lane at Benton County Speedway. With Sunday’s win, the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact driver accomplished something that had only been done once 44 years ago at The Bullring. Colton Stewart was the early leader in the iHeart Radio 12-lapper. Stewart quickly pulled away from the 18-car field, leaving the rest of the pack to battle two and three-wide behind him. A pair of stoppages kept the field tightly bunched, allowing Rick and Devin Jones to work through traffic from mid-pack starts. The pair of pursuers kept pace with Stewart until Rick was able to make the pass for the lead with only a couple laps to go. Richards records first win on Disco Fever Night at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 8, 2023) – A third generation driver became a first time Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod on Disco Fever Night at Eagle Raceway. Mason Richards kept Adam Armstrong in check in the Saturday show, and followed father Terry and grandfather Terry Sr. onto the roll of feature winners at the famed Nebraska speed plant. “It’s definitely special. Both my dad and grandfather have won here at Eagle, so being the third generation to win here just makes it all the more special, especially in my rookie year here. I couldn’t be happier,” he said. Schmidt repeats in Stock Cars, Gustin, Anderson, Christensen, Glick see first Boone checkers of 2023

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 8, 2023) – A huge field of 177 cars filled the pits at Boone Speedway on Saturday night and provided fans with a full night of racing action. Jay Schmidt repeated an earlier win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, while first-time wins this season went to Jimmy Gustin in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Logan Anderson in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, Riley Christensen in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Joe Glick in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites. The Mod Lites ran a 15-lap feature, which did not start well. As the race went green, two cars rolled over coming out of turn two and the race was red flagged until the chaos was cleared. Monson crosses Bumble Bee Nationals off IMCA bucket list

ALGONA, Iowa (July 6, 2023) – Go ahead and cross the Bumble Bee Nationals off Oliver Monson’s races to win bucket list. Monson raced all the way from 11th starting to win Kossuth County Speedway’s 4-cylinder special Thursday night, topping a who’s who type field of Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact drivers. The win was good for $1,000. The feeling of accomplishment that came with those checkers was worth more. “We just put the car up top and let it go,” said Monson, who had the lead seven circuits into the 25-lapper and handled half a dozen restarts and some lapped traffic before crossing the stripe ahead of 10th starting Mick Rykhus and 14th starting Nate Coopman. “And obviously everything ended pretty well.” Michigan visitor Trever Cronick and Kaytee DeVries rounded out the top five. Pollard prevails at Indee’s Osborn Memorial

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 5, 2023) – Eric Pollard went from terrible on Sunday to lights out on Wednesday. Pollard led every lap of the Denny Osborn Memorial main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Independence Motor Speedway, earning $2,072 along with a $250 bonus from Sunoco Race Fuels. “To come here and win this race was awesome. We were terrible on Sunday (at Dubuque,)” Pollard said from victory lane. “Having a good run tonight was just what we needed.” Pollard started third in the 22-lapper and was chased every time around the track by Evan Miller. The last restart came with three laps left and Miller was unable to muster a challenge, finishing three car lengths off the pace. Kids’ Christmas in July this Sunday at The Bullring

VINTON, Iowa (July 5, 2023) – Although Santa doesn’t arrive for another few months, kids in attendance will have some mid-summer Christmas cheer this Sunday at Benton County Speedway. Kids’ Christmas in July is on tap July 9 and will feature kids’ power wheel races, plus a number of prize giveaways for the youth in attendance. The IMCA Weekly Racing season continues Sunday night in all divisions, as well. Off Road Speedway draws 100 cars to early holiday special

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 3, 2023) – A pre-Independence Day special event was well-attended by both competitors and fans on Monday night at Off Road Speedway. With a full, reddish-colored moon as a backdrop, 100 cars, including a large number of drivers trying their luck at the Norfolk track for the first time, and a crowd of approximately 500 enjoyed a night of IMCA racing followed by a celebratory fireworks display. Cory Dumpert ran away with the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature, despite a starting position in the middle of the 22-car grid. Dumpert made his way to the front during the first half of the race before taking the lead by coming out on top of a brief five-lap battle with Cade Richards. Dumpert then pulled away from the field both before and after the race’s fifth and final caution occurred with seven laps remaining. Richards finished second with Tad Pospisil taking third. RaceSaver win is first for rookie Snow

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 1, 2023) – A driver from Princeton was king of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars Saturday night at Arlington Raceway. Jeremy Snow won his first career feature in the winged class, leading the distance in a 15-lap feature that ran green to checkered. “It felt fantastic,” said Snow, an IMCA rookie at 48 and winner in his 14th night out. “We have taken some lumps this season (rebuilding the car in late May) so it was a great feeling to get this win.
