IMCA clarifies Modified, Late Model rear end weight rules

VINTON, Iowa – Weight rules for both IMCA Modified and IMCA Late Model divisions are not to be taken lightly. Rear end rules for the two divisions were clarified for the 2017 race season. The Modified rule specifies that a standard weight steel axle tube is allowed, the Late Model rule that standard weight aluminum or steel axle tubes only can be used in sanctioned competition. “This is a performance issue and one that is important for maintaining fairness,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “By no means do we believe the disqualification of the defending champion at the Independence Deery Series event was a result of intentional cheating of this rule, but it must be enforced regardless of who the driver is or their previous success. 2017 IMCA Late Model season begins Friday at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Rob Toland will begin defense of his IMCA Late Model national championship this Friday, April 28 at Davenport Speedway. Toland’s 2016 national title was his career third. His previous national crowns were in 2001 and 2005. He was also the track champion at Davenport last season. Late Models will use a draw/re-draw format. Davenport’s other weekly classes, the Ericksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds, the Koehler Electric Street Stocks, and the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods, will be lined up by point average All races will be on the quarter-mile oval. Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport. Jackson Motorplex reschedules IMCA Frostbuster to May 5

JACKSON, Minn. – The IMCA Frostbuster at Jackson Motorplex has been rescheduled due to unreasonably cold temperatures forecasted for this weekend. The track’s season-opening event will now be a one-day show featuring IMCA Modifieds in a $1,000 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $600 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $400 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $100 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Allstar Performance State and track points will be awarded. Pits are scheduled to open at 4 p.m. with the front gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students ages 13 to 18 and free for children ages 12 and younger. Pit passes are $30. Jackson Motorplex is offering a Family Pass, which includes two adults and up to three students, for $33.

Mather begins Southern Iowa Speedway title defense

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 26) – Colt Mather opened defense of his IMCA Modified title with the feature win on a chilly opening night Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. Hunter Marriott led the first laps of the 20-lap Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature before Mather took charge. Mather started to pull away only to see the caution force a green, white, checkered finish. Mather held off Marriott and Todd Shute to take the win. The Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars lived up to the nickname “The Class Too Tough Too Tame” as defending track champion Louis Lynch started on the pole and led the opening lap. Three-time Hobby Stock track champion Dustin Griffiths found the right line and when Lynch bobbled a little, it allowed Griffiths to take the lead. Koch leads Sprint Series of Oklahoma to Wichita Speedway

By David Smith Jr. OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – After two consecutive rainouts, the Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products make its first appearance of the season at Wichita Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas Friday night. The April 28 event is part of the track’s “Sprint Spring Fling.” Local resident and current series point leader Chad Koch looks to add a second victory to his resume as he leads a talent-laden field of veteran and rookies to the quarter-mile clay oval. HAYS, Kan. – The 2017 United Rebel Sprint Series Kansas Region Championship will kick off this Saturday at RPM Speedway in Hays.
