2017 Super Nationals

2017 Super Nationals logo required for best appearing car contest 

BOONE, Iowa – There’s no particular theme, just one important requirement for Modified and Northern SportMod drivers planning to enter the Best Appearing Car contest for their respective divisions at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. In addition to required decals for the divison, entries must incorporate the 2017 Super Nationals logo, in original and unaltered colors, in the overall design. The logo must be a minimum of 20 inches wide and 13 inches tall and located on the nose or side of the car. “Designs can and should be unique,” commented IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “I will email the logo to graphics companies and anyone else who needs the logo can contact me at the IMCA home office.” Golden Empire Towing of Bakersfield, Calif., awards $200 in cash to drivers of the cars judged best appearing in both divisions. United Rebel Sprint Series conclude Summer Sizzler Tour this weekend 

COLBY, Kan. (July 7) – With night one of the Summer Sizzler Tour in going to Nebraska’s Toby Chapman, United Rebel Sprint Series drivers are preparing to finish out the four-race series with the final three races this weekend in pursuit of the $1,000 winner’s share for the overall champion­ship. Tonight (Friday) the Rebels make their appearance at Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kan., after being rained out there earlier this spring. A great field of cars are expected for this event as, along with the URSS regulars, there will be a good contingent of Colorado, Nebraska and Okla­homa cars to begin the three-day run. Oklahoma’s Ty Williams will be on hand to defend his win last year in this event as will current Jake Martins. IMCA Modified main pays $1,000 to win Saturday at Idaho Falls 

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot this Saturday at Idaho Falls Raceway. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Regional, Allstar Performance State and track points will be awarded at the July 8 show. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. Hot laps and racing follow the 6 p.m. drivers’ meeting. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and over and military and veterans with ID, $6 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Car and driver is $50; pit pass only is $20. Lawson blisters Langley for Virginia Sprint Series victory 

By Jim Haines HAMPTON, Va. (July 1) – On a hot Saturday evening at Langley Speedway, rookie Bronzie Lawson found the way to the front of the Virginia Sprint Series field and stayed there for his first IMCA RaceSaver win. Mike Leraas and Mike Keeton paced the field to feature green and raced that way for a lap before Leraas edged away with Jerald Harris on his tail. Harris went high and into the lead, leaving Leraas to deal with Keeton as Lawson worked his way up to fourth. Harris streaked away until he misjudged lapping a car, ending both their nights against the wall. Lawson restarted third and quickly got by Keeton for second. Kansas Thunder Series opens 2017 season

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (July 2) – The Kansas Thunder Series opened its 2017 race season Sunday evening, July 2, at Rooks County Speedway. In the IMCA Modified main event, David Murray Jr. took the lead from Kaid Calhoon on lap three and drove away for the feature win. Daniel Gottschalk held off Mike Petersilie for the runner-up spot, with Tyler Sutton and Calhoon rounding out the top five. Casey Woken led all 12 laps in the caution-free IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Kyle Pfeifer was second, followed by Tanner Portenier, Robert Rutherford and Jason Davis. Dakota Sproul led all 12 laps to win the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, which finished under caution. Chapman sprints to Battle at Belleville IMCA RaceSaver win

BELLEVILLE, Kan. (July 3) – Toby Chapman used the pole starting position to his advantage as he led every lap of the Battle at Belleville Saturday at the Belleville High Banks. The $1,000 checkers came on opening night of the Summer Sizzler Tour and were the United Rebel Sprint Series career first for Chapman. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event was co-sanctioned by the Sprint Series of Nebraska. Chapman jumped out to the early lead over Blain Peterson. Tenth starting Jason Martin made a bold move on an early restart to take over second and began waging a race-long battle with Chapman. Darren Berry was pressuring Martin by lap nine. Hard-charging Ty Williams rocketed through the field and was up to fourth before contact with another car sent him pitside and brought out the final caution on lap 13. By Tom Berg Dakota Classic Modified Tour: From a Dream to A Premier National Tour In 1990 John Gartner had a vision about having a series of dirt-track racing during the summer in North Dakota, similar to Speedweeks in Florida during the week of the Daytona 500 each February. Out of that vision was born the Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Some thought the idea was crazy. As it turns out, Gartner’s tour dream was far from crazy; it has blossomed into the largest Modified touring series in the United States.
