KRC continues rich IMCA awards program

LOCKWOOD, Mo. – Drivers in all eight IMCA divisions earn shares of a lucrative Kluhsman Racing Components awards program again this season. The Lockwood, Mo., manufacturer and 21-year IMCA sponsor is again part of national decal programs for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods, giving $75 product certificates to top 10 drivers in final national point standings for each division. Product certificates of the same value go to top three drivers in each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds, and to top three drivers in national standings for IMCA Late Models, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. SportMod drivers must display two KRC decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares and post-season contingencies. Rookie races to Tri-City checkers

(May 4) – Nobody could keep up with Nate Jones Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway, as the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified rookie raced to his first career win in the class. A former pro stock champion, Jones made what became the winning pass just shy of halfway and dominated the rest of the way. At the finish, Jones was closely followed by last week’s winner Matt Szecsodi and Chris Cohoon.

Quad City win is Deery Series record tying fourth straight for Kay

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 6) – A driver who’s been in a class by himself joined another exclusive group Sunday night. Justin Kay won the Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Quad City Speedway, his third victory in as many IMCA Late Model tour outings this season and record-tying fourth straight Deery win dating to the 2017 finale. Previous winners of four straight Deery features were Gary Webb in 1994, Rob Toland in 2004 and Brian Harris in 2013. Kay dominates Deery at Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 5) – Once he got in front, there was no catching Justin Kay in Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Maquoketa Speedway. Kay started in the second row, slipped inside leader Terry Neal on the 12th circuit and led to the finish of the IMCA Late Model Tour feature. “Terry moved up to get by a lapped car and that’s when I was able to pass him,” Kay said. “Any time you get an opportunity like that, you have to be ready.” The sole caution of the 50-lapper came out with three circuits to go and Kay by then handily ahead of Neal & Co. Unfazed, Kay pulled away again in taking the $2,000 checkers, his second in as many Deery dates this season, third in a row and career 26th. Kay rallies for Davenport Modified win

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 4) – Justin Kay raced from the back of the field to the checkers Friday at Davenport Speedway. Six Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds, one of them six driven by Kay, were involved in a first-lap incident. Kay restarted at the tail of the field but several cautions later, took the lead after a lap 12 restart. Kay led the remainder of the race to take victory. Kurt Kile worked his way to a second place finish. The Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMods saw a number of early yellows, however there would be no pass for the lead. Keith Blum started on the front row and survived all the restarts to score the victory. Jared Waterman finished second.

Dodge City opener set for Saturday night

The 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas gets the 2018 season under way in grand style with three must-see events over the course of the month of May. Four Sunday dates for IMCA Modifieds at Sheyenne

LISBON, N.D. – Four Sunday dates for IMCA Modifieds are on the schedule for Sheyenne Speedway’s 45th anniversary season. The sanctioned division is on the opening night program June 10, as well as July 1, Aug. 12 and Sept. 30 cards. “We’re excited about this. We’ve got a lot of good drivers in the area who have been going to the IMCA Modified,” said promoter Benjie Froemke. “We’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from drivers and other tracks.” The quarter-mile dirt oval at Lisbon, located in the southeast corner of North Dakota, will share drivers with the Friday-Saturday tandem of Red River Valley Speedway at West Fargo and Jamestown Speedway, and worked with Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minn., for these four dates. Rust, Thornton hustle to $1,000 High Banks wins

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 26-27) – Joel Rust hustled his way to the $1,000 checkers Thursday night at Marshalltown Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr. did the same on Friday. Rust and Thornton were IMCA Modified winners at Marshalltown’s season-opening Twin High Banks Hustle. While Thornton was already on the ballot, Rust’s victory made him vote eligible for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. After drawing the outside pole, Rust had to hold off Hunter Marriott late in the contest. Ninth starting Tyler Droste, Tim Ward and Ethan Dotson completed the top five. Thornton went from last on Thursday to first in the Friday feature, leading every lap and winning ahead of Marriott, Cayden Carter, Kyle Brown and Richie Gustin.
