Storm Postpones Racing Action At CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 3, 2026) — Severe weather forced officials to cancel the remainder of Friday night’s racing program at CJ Speedway after qualifying events had been completed.

Forecasts had called for storms to remain north of Columbus Junction until later in the evening, but the weather arrived much sooner than expected. The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature had just begun when strong winds created unsafe racing conditions after four laps, forcing officials to stop the race. Rain quickly followed, becoming a heavy downpour as teams loaded their race cars in the pit area.

The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods will each run makeup features on Friday, July 10, in addition to a full night of racing. New competitors are welcome to enter both makeup features, giving fans a six-feature program for the regular admission price.

The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks will run two features on Friday, July 24. The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature will resume from lap five during the Louisa County Fair program on Thursday, July 30, before a full night of racing concludes the evening.

Wood Family Makes History as CJ Speedway Opens the 2026 Racing Season

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Apr. 24, 2026) — The 2026 racing season got underway Friday night at CJ Speedway, and the Wood family from Sigourney made racing history as the father-son duo of Nathan and Brayden each scored feature victories. Nathan captured the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event, while Brayden topped the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature, making for a memorable opening night. The first main event of the evening was the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Brayden Wood, in only his second full year of racing, started from the outside front row and immediately took command, with accomplished racer Daniel Wauters in hot pursuit. The two put on an entertaining battle, as Wauters pulled alongside Wood several times late in the race. The younger Wood showed that racing runs deep in his blood, holding strong to score his first win of the year in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region. CJ Speedway season opener falls to weather

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (April 26, 2024) – The 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season opener scheduled for Friday at CJ Speedway fell victim to the wet grounds and the prediction of severe storms to hit the Louisa County Fairgrounds. The season opener has now been reset for Friday, May 3 and the opening nights race program will be sponsored by our friends from Bosch Pest Control. Four classes of sanctioned race cars will be in competition as Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks highlight the race program that gets underway at 7 p.m. with warmups, racing will follow. Oveson Refuge & Recycling Night at the Races has been rescheduled for Friday, July 5.

Simmons scores first CJ Speedway IMCA Modified win

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 9, 2023) – IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing returned to CJ Speedway on Friday night with near perfect weather conditions and a solid field of race cars were on hand to put on a great night of racing on a perfectly prepared race track in front of a nice crowd. It is always special to see a regular competitor score the first win of their racing career at the track and that was the case Friday night as Dakota Simmons, The Douds Missile, captured the win in the very tough Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature. An early dust-up saw the cars of Troy Philpott and Brian Bushong retire to the pit area before one lap was completed. Herrera Finally Breaks Through at Nodak Speedway

(July 4, 2026) — Payce Herrera finally broke through at the Playground of Power, making a decisive pass with six laps remaining to score his first career Nodak Speedway victory in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods. The 2026 Tougher Than Dirt Tour champion from Price, Utah, started fourth and collected his 11th win of the season after a race filled with lead changes and intense battles. Keenan Glasser, the 2024 North Dakota state champion, jumped to the early lead before a caution on lap three erased his advantage. On the restart, Glasser held off a thrilling three-wide challenge from Stan Tomlinson and Herrera, then survived another restart one lap later as Herrera and newly crowned Nodak Speedway champion Chad Strachen both looked for a way around. Schnitzer Scores First Win of 2026 at Grays Harbor Raceway

By Shaun Hulbert ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2026) — A large crowd kicked off the Independence Day weekend as Q-Mart presented the Mid-Season Championship at Grays Harbor Raceway. Fans enjoyed Fan Appreciation activities before the evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature delivered plenty of drama as Brenton Schnitzer capitalized on misfortune for the frontrunners to earn his first DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region victory of the 2026 season. John Gaynor appeared to have the race under control until a flat tire and subsequent mechanical issues ended his bid for the win, opening the door for Schnitzer. The Shelton driver took over the lead and held off a determined charge from Austin Rognlin over the closing laps to secure the victory after starting ninth.
