Benischek is best twice at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (April 30) – Jake Benischek took home a couple trophies Friday night after winning IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Mach-1 Sport Compact main events.

Benischek raced to the Hobby Stock checkers just ahead of Rick VanDusseldorp and Aaron Martin.  He completed the two division sweep as he advanced from ninth to score the Sport Compact win over Christian Grady and Cody VanDusen.

The IMCA Modified feature belonged to Kurt Kile, who took advantage of a front row start and led the main event flag to flag. Jarrett Brown advanced from the fifth row and battled Kile late in the race but settled for second at the checkers. Derrick Stewart advanced from the 10th starting position to take third ahead of Kyle Madden. 

The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods saw 19 drivers take the green flag for their main event. Shane Paris raced to the front from a sixth row start and took the lead from Todd Hansen, who just recently got behind the wheel after a several-year hiatus from racing. Hansen showed no signs of being rusty as he raced to a solid second place finish. Logan Anderson took third ahead of Levi Laymon.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were the final feature of the night to run and Jason See scored his second feature win of the season, coming from the 11th starting position. 

See overtook race leader John Hemsted as the race passed the midway point. David Brandies advanced from tenth to give See a late-race challenge but See held on to score the win. Hemsted took third ahead of 2019 track champion Johnny Spaw.

Fast track provides exciting night of racing at CJ Speedway  

By Jerry Mackey   COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (April 28, 2023) – Friday night saw the second night of racing at the CJ Speedway located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction. A beautiful day gave way to a typical cool spring evening and the motors were humming on the super-fast 4/10-mile oval.   The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds main event took the green with veteran racer Troy Cordes taking the lead from his outside front row starting position. Cordes built a commanding lead as the race went green to checkers.  Defending track champion Jarrett Brown moved into second as the race neared the midway point and set out to chase down leader Cordes, who had built a commanding lead. Lapped traffic came into play late in the race and Brown was able to use traffic to reel in Cordes. The two front runners split a slower car as the race off turn four to the checkers saw Cordes score the win by a bumper ahead of Brown. Kile, Griffiths among IMCA winners at Louisa County Fair races 

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 29) – A great crowd turned out on a beautiful night for racing at the 130th annual Louisa County Fair on Friday night. Larry Richardson gave the 88 race teams in attendance a great racing surface to race on, not only did the drivers use every inch of the CJ Speedway oval, they raced on the lower part of the levee on several occasions.   The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature ran caution-free. Row two starter Kurt Kile moved out front early as he raced away from Derek Walker. CJ Speedway hosts two outstanding nights of special races 

By Jerry Mackey and Anthony Ainslee  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Sept. 22-23, 2023) – CJ Speedway hosted two special nights of racing on the Louisa County Fairgrounds with racers coming from great distances to delight the race fans. Friday night the 22nd of September was the Battle on the Levee. Originally scheduled to be held during the Louisa County Fair, the race was postponed due to the excessive heat during the summer and was run as the opener of the weekend which also hosted the “Governors Cup,“ special on Saturday. The Battle on the Levee featured a talented field of 86 drivers.  Twenty-six Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds took the green and a stellar field battled it out for 20 laps for their main event. When the checkers flew it was Spencer Diercks scoring a hard-fought win ahead of Jarrett Brown. Drew Janssen took third ahead of Todd Shute.
