ALGONA, Iowa (May 21, 2026) — The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks stole the spotlight during another action-packed night at Kossuth County Speedway as Brandon Nielsen survived a caution-filled 28-car feature to earn his first B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season.
The Hobby Stock feature required a complete restart after a multi-car pileup in turn one. Derrick Barglof paced the early laps before another caution flew on lap three when Brett Doege lost his nose cone.
Spencer’s Nielsen powered into the lead one lap later and remained unfazed through caution flags on laps five, eight, nine, and 13 to secure the victory after starting 10th.
Last week’s winner Nathan DaRagon finished second while Josh Sidles turned in one of the drives of the night, charging from 26th to third. Steve Wickman crossed the line fourth and Dan Hanselman advanced from 11th to finish fifth.
Heat race victories went to Austin Jahnz, Barglof, Doege, and DaRagon.
Stevens Scores Second SportMod Victory at Algona
Jackson Carey and Matt Grall led the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods to green with Carey taking command early.
Caution flags on laps eight, nine, and 11 repeatedly tightened the field, but Algona’s Charlie Stevens steadily reeled in the leader before making the winning move with three laps remaining.
Stevens, who started fourth, drove away for his second win of the season with both victories coming at Kossuth County Speedway after never previously winning a feature at Algona before 2026.
Alec Fett advanced from eighth to finish second while Mat Hollerich took third. Carey settled for fourth and Jacob Korte completed a hard-charging run from 18th to fifth.
Heat race wins went to Josh Appel, Fett, and Carey.
Swearingen Holds Off Shryock in Stock Car Main
The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars produced an entertaining 20-lap feature with Troy Swearingen grabbing the lead at the drop of the green.
Swearingen and Colby Fett separated themselves from the field early while McCain Jennings, Kevin Opheim, Kelly Shryock, and Carter Evans battled fiercely for third.
A caution on lap 10 for Evans’ mechanical troubles erased Swearingen’s advantage and allowed Shryock to apply heavy pressure over the final laps. However, Thompson’s Swearingen held on for his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season.
Shryock advanced from 10th to finish second while Jennings was third. Fett crossed the line fourth and Opheim completed the top five.
Swearingen and Opheim earned stock car heat race wins earlier in the evening.
Baca Breaks Through for First Algona Modified Victory
After the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds took the green flag for their 20-lap feature the race went green-white-checkered.
Braden Claborn led the opening laps before Chaz Baca Jr. powered into the lead on lap three after starting fourth.
The Jewell driver, originally from Mesa, Arizona, never looked back and scored his fourth victory of the season and first Razor Chassis North Central Region triumph of 2026 after earlier season wins in Arizona and Florida.
Jeremy Mills finished second ahead of Nick Meyer. Todd Stinehart crossed the line fourth while Colby Fett rounded out the top five.
Jayden Larson, Baca, and Mills each advanced three positions to share hard charger honors. Todd Stinehart won the evening’s lone modified heat race.
