DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 15, 2026) — Beautiful weather and fast racecars made for an enjoyable evening Friday at Davenport Speedway. Cruz Birkhofer dominated the Sunoco IMCA Late Models. The Muscatine driver started seventh in the feature and did not see the lead until lap 16. Once out front, Birkhofer drove away from the field to score his first win of the season by more than two seconds.
Andy Nezworski charged from 10th to finish second. Early race leader Logan Veloz held on for third while Nathan Balensiefen and Chuck Hanna rounded out the top five. Nezworski and Veloz were Late Model heat winners.
Veloz Victorious in Modifieds
Logan Veloz was not to be denied in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds. Chris Zogg jumped out to the early lead in the Modified main, but a caution with five laps remaining changed the complexion of the race.
After the restart, Veloz, from Colona, Illinois, used the low line to perfection while Zogg struggled to maintain momentum on the high side. Veloz, who started sixth, captured his first Razor Chassis North Central Region victory of 2026 with a margin of victory of nearly half a second.
Zogg settled for second while Spencer Diercks advanced from 12th to third. Tony Von Dresky and Shane Paris completed the top five.
Hicks Hustles from 10th to SportMod Win
Jordan Hicks finally had things go his way in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods. The Delmar driver started 10th and took the lead on lap 10 en route to his first victory of the season and first Davenport triumph since 2021.
Tony Olson charged from 12th to second while Ben Chapman rallied from 15th to finish third. Bryson Eckrich and Josh Starr completed the top five.
Ellithorpe Redeems Himself in Stock Cars
Jacob Ellithorpe avenged his season-opening heartbreak in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars. In the opener, Ellithorpe was leading on the white flag lap before suffering a broken driveshaft.
This time, the Maquoketa driver left nothing to chance, leading all 15 laps for his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the year.
Tony Olson climbed from ninth to second while the Miles family locked down the next three positions with Jordan, Jerry, and Kodey finishing third through fifth.
LaMar Capitalizes Late in Hobby Stocks
Tires are what win races, and that proved true in the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks. Randy LaMar inherited the lead following a late-race caution and led the final two laps for the victory.
The Buffalo driver started fourth and earned his second B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win of the season and first at Davenport in 2026.
Jordan Patz had built a commanding lead before the caution, but suffered a flat tire under yellow and was forced to pit. Karter Miles raced from 10th to finish second ahead of Carson Butt in third. Preston McDonald and Tasker Timmerman completed the top five while Rick Schriner charged from 19th to sixth.
