Night two of IMCA Wild West Shootout sees James, Roberts, Pearce hit Coos Bay paydirt

COOS BAY, Ore. (June 20, 2022) – Round two of the 2022 IMCA Wild West Shootout fired off on Monday and Coos Bay Speedway was once again the track to host the action.

The same three Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing divisions were in attendance from the previous evening. They included the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. 

Despite several cautions, the IMCA Modified main event was a barnburner. The 35-lap race started with Collen Winebarger beating out Grey Ferrando for the point. Winebarger was passed at the line on lap two but stayed near Ferrando and kept the pressure up. 

Grey would feel some heat from both Winebarger and Jesse Williamson. Williamson would get around the both of them on lap nine and become the new leader. A long green-flag run developed, which allowed Winebarger to track down Williamson and overtake him on the nineteenth circuit. 

The two would have a heated battle in which both of them, unfortunately, got tangled together on lap 28. This gave the lead to Bricen James.   

Bricen James went on to win his second career series victory and first since 2018 at Willamette Speedway. Grey Ferrando ended the race second while third went to Troy Morris III. Brothers Eston and Ian Whisler were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.

Toby McIntyre had a splendid run in the IMCA Stock Car feature. The Coos Bay driver held on to P1 for most of the race despite numerous challenges for the top spot. But Kevin Roberts made the power move on lap 23 of 25 to become the new trailblazer. 

Roberts held on to score the impressive win. Toby McIntyre was a respectable second, followed by Jerry Schram in third. Chase Berkeley managed to beat his sister Tiana Wild for fourth.

Lastly, the IMCA Northern SportMods witnessed domination from Andrew Pearce. But it took six laps for the youngster to get to the head of the pack. Before that, Justin Ryker was pacing the field. 

Pearce was able to stay in first place for the rest of the 25-lap race. Grass Valley, Calif. traveler Andrew Peckham was second at the line, with Justin Ryker earning third. Steven Sanders beat out his brother Matt for P4 in the finishing order.

Williamson gets second Wild West Shootout win of week

(June 21, 2022) – Jesse Williamson and Matt Sanders made their way to victory lane and Zack Simpson made his way into the history book when Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the third installment of the IMCA Wild West Shootout. Williamson raced to his second $1,000 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory on three Shootout starts, Sanders became the third different Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod Shootout winner while Simpson won the first IMCA Sunoco Stock car feature held at Cottage Grove. Eston Whisler set a torrid pace early in the Modified main, but the veteran Williamson reeled the leader in during a long green flag run and got the lead back on lap 28, then held off the young challenger for his career 17th Shootout victory. Wild West Shootout takes IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods to Oregon, Washington venues

WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 10, 2022) – Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds return to the top of the marquee for the June 17-25 Wild West Shootout. One thousand dollar top checks and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility go to Modified feature winners June 17 at Southern Oregon Speedway in White City; June 18 and June 21 at Cottage Grove Speedway; June 19 and 20 at Coos Bay Speedway; June 23 at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon; and June 24 at Sunset Speedway in Banks. IMCA Wild West Shootout introduces #StephanieStrong hard charger award

WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 10, 2022) – 2022 will see several new additions to the IMCA Wild West Shootout. In addition to the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will join the card. The Stock Cars will race every race on tour except for the last round.  Something also new will be the introduction of the #StephanieStrong Hard Charger Award. Every night, the driver in each division that passes the most cars based on their original starting position will receive the decoration. All ties will be broken by the driver that started the furthest back in the field.  The creation of the award is in memory of the late Stephanie Deatherage, who tragically passed away last September. Stephanie was a significant fixture during the IMCA Wild West Shootout from washing drivers’ suits, helping calculate points, taking pictures or supporting her husband Ben with announcing.   Each night, if there are enough sponsors, each driver in each division who is eligible for the award will receive $100.
