ALGONA, Iowa (July 22) – Dylan Nelson led all 25 laps to collect the $1,000 first place winnings in the second annual Jess Weishaar Memorial and Mid-Summer IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Shootout at Kossuth County Speedway. 

Nelson started on the inside of the second row and took the lead immediately and only a yellow flag on lap seven delayed his trip into victory lane for the big payday. 

Brandon Bombardo had a good run to finish in second as Mike Smith was third with Jesse Vanlaningham taking fourth and Josh Sidles was the fifth place car. 

Eric Knudson went from 23rd starting to eighth to earn an extra $200 for the feature’s hard. 

The IMCA Modifieds put on a good show as Nick Meyer grabbed the early lead. A caution flag came out on lap five as Meyer continued to lead, running on the bottom of the track. 

Jeremy Mills slowly reeled in Meyer using the top side of the oval and took over the lead one lap past halfway. Meyer took the lead right back on lap 12 before Mills retook the lead on lap 14. Mills did not give up that top spot as he won for the third straight week.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car class has been dominated all year long by Kelly Shryock but not on this night as Chad Palmer never trailed. Donovan Smith was runner-up and Shryock was third.

Sixteen Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods took the green flag as Alex Smith grabbed the early lead. The yellow flag appeared on lap three as a car spun out in front of the field as both Colby Fett and Charlie Stevens had nowhere to go and both drivers were done for the night after getting tangled up together. 

The race went non-stop from that point as Alec Fett took the lead one lap after the restart and never looked back. Pole sitter Gerald Curry finished second.

Dan Potts and Chris Wilson bought the 12-car Mach-1 Sport Compact field to the flagstand as Wilson took the early lead but bowed out on the fourth lap with a flat tire.

Jade Lange took over the top spot and never gave it back as he earned his second feature win of the season at the track. Tyler Fielbelkorn ended up second. 

This week is the big one at the track as the racers will be competing for an $85,000 purse on “Salute to Veterans” night as all veterans and their spouses will be admitted free.

Reutzel, Monson win again at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 7) – Tad Reutzel and Oliver Monson both made return trips to victory lane at Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night, Reutzel outran Kelly Shryock and Mat Hollerich for his second IMCA Modified win this season at Algona. Monson’s third local Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers of 2018 came ahead of Jacob Tacheny and Taylor Kuper. Collecting their first wins of the year at Kossuth County were Kevin Opheim in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Josh Meyer in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Doug Wickman in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Salute to Veterans show at Kossuth County draws 137 cars

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 27, 2023) – It was the eighth annual Hunting With Heroes Salute to Veterans night at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday as the event just continues to break more records every year. An event-high 137 cars signed in the pit shack to compete for an increased purse but more importantly a hand-carved trophy and an opportunity to give a veteran a prize worth at least $300 with a top three finish. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw a veteran driver win what he said in the winner’s circle was the biggest victory in his racing career. Todd Stinehart took the top spot early and built a lead but the yellow flag came out lap number three and again three laps later. But after that, the feature went non-stop as emotional Stinehart was elated in victory lane with the biggest win of his 28-year career and a nice $3,500 first place check helped a little bit, too. Saturday start for IMCA Midwest Madness Tour

HARLAN, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for a minimum of $1,000 to win each night of the Arnold Motor Supply Midwest Madness Tour. The tour starts Saturday, June 27 at Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, then travels to The New Raceway Park Speedway at Jefferson, S.D., on Sunday, June 28; Clay County Fair Speedway at Spencer on Monday, June 29; Fairmont, Minn., Raceway on Tuesday, June 30; Kossuth County Speedway in Algona on Wednesday, July 1; Stuart Speedway on Thursday, July 2; and Crawford County Speedway in Denison on Friday, July 3. All shows are draw/redraw and each Modified feature is a qualifying event for the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Arnold Motor Supply gift cards in the amounts of $1,000, $500 and $250 will go to the top three drivers in final tour points. Awards will be distributed following the final night’s program.
