Shipley scores in photo finish at Sheyenne

IMCA.com-#72-Shipley-Celebration---Sheyenne-Speedway-Lisbon-ND — Dave Shipley was the IMCA Modified winner during the 45th anniversary race program at Sheyenne Speedway.

LISBON, N.D. (July 1) – Dave Shipley was the photo finish winner when IMCA Modifieds returned to Sheyenne Speedway as part of the track’s 45^th anniversary night.

John Nord led early but was soon overtaken by rookie Jesse Skalicky.

Skalicky was fast on the high side and built a nice lead, but the car on the move was the ninth starting Shipley’s.

He used an effective low line, steadily moved through the field and took over second, then started closing the gap on Skalicky.

As the laps wound down, Shipley got closer and closer and eventually got beside Skalicky as the two ran side-by-side the final few laps. The two raced to the line, where Shipley won a thriller by just .049 of a second in a true photo finish.

Nord had a nice run to finish third, followed by Randy Klein and Tyler Peterson.

Arneson scores Sheyenne Speedway IMCA Modified win

By Tom Berg LISBON, N.D. (May 27) – Austin Arneson took the lead early and never gave it up in picking up the Memorial Day IMCA Modified win at Sheyenne Speedway. John Nord was second, Greg Friestad third, Dylan Goplen fourth after starting last in the field and Dave Shipley fifth. The 1/4-mile oval at Lisbon hosted a track-record 118 cars for the holiday event.

Kendall brings broom to Sheyenne Speedway, completes Northstar IMCA Mod Tour sweep

LISBON, N.D. (Aug. 12) – After running third in his Northstar IMCA Modified Tour heat race at Sheyenne Speedway, Billy Kendall didn’t think Sunday would be his night. That wasn’t the case. Kendall drew another front row start, chased and got the lead back from Jarrett Carter, then stayed in front to the end of the 30-lapper at Lisbon. Sheyenne Speedway adds four IMCA divisions for 2024

LISBON, N.D. (Feb. 2, 2024) – Four IMCA track champions will be crowned this season at Sheyenne Speedway. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are on May 29, June 9, July 12 and July 28 programs at the quarter-mile dirt oval in Lisbon, N.D. Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks will be joined by Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods for the Ransom County Fair show on Aug. 22. New promoters for the 51st season of racing at Sheyenne Speedway are Jake and Sharnel Bitker, who also promote IMCA venues Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn., and Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, and Nick Skalicky. “The fair board has been very supportive – they’re good people – and the community has been very supportive. Stars Align for Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational at Boone Speedway

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 20, 2025) — The best of the best in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division will gather for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, one of the premier showcase events of the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Drivers become eligible for the All-Star Invitational by winning a sanctioned Modified feature event paying a minimum of $1,000 to win. Qualifying for the 2025 edition continues through the final weekend of August, with the full roster of eligible drivers set before race week. The 2025 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 at Boone, with starting spots determined through a combination of group time trials, points, and a final draw. Eligibility is earned by winning sanctioned Stock Car events paying a minimum of $1,000 to win, with drivers capturing $5,000 or more specials guaranteed starting positions. Qualifying for the 2025 event continues through the final weekend of August. 1,000 Drivers Set to Chase Glory at 2025 IMCA Super Nationals

By Ben Deatherage BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 20, 2025) – For the fourth consecutive year, pre-entries for the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s have topped the 1,000 mark. On August 20, Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock driver Eric Cross of Salina, Kansas, became the 1,000th driver to register for the 43rd annual event. All divisions are currently pacing ahead of last year’s totals, with 285 Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars, 237 Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, 168 Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods, 159 Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks, 78 Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites, and 60 Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts already entered. The overall all-time record of 1,036 competitors was set last year, with 1,061 pre-registered entries. The Stock Car total is already an all-time preregistration record for the class, surpassing last year’s mark of 281.
