SHAWANO, Wis. (May 19) – Rookie Wyatt Block won his first career IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Shawano Speedway.
Trevor Spaulding pulled to the early lead with Eddie Muenster in tow. As those two paced the field, Block began to work through the field after starting the race in 10th. By the time Block passed Muenster for second near the midpoint of the race, Spaulding had built up a sizeable advantage.
Block continued to reel in Spaulding, though, before a caution after lap 13 bunched the field back up.
Block took advantage and grabbed the lead with an inside pass for the lead on lap 15, then never looked back in scoring his first IMCA Modified win. Spaulding finished second. Lance Arneson was the hard charger as he moved from 17th starting to finish third.
Jeremy Christians notched another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win, his first of the 2018 season, while Lucas Lamberies remained unbeaten in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods as he won his third feature in a row.
By Justin Zirngible. SHAWANO, Wis. (May 7, 2022) – Three IMCA drivers raced to season-first wins at Shawano Speedway on Saturday night. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars took to the track for the first “A” main of the night and The Class Too Tough To Tame did not disappoint. The father-son duo of Vern and Dylan Stedjee started on the front row for the 20-lap main event. Vern Stedjee got the jump on the start and led the first 15 circuits. A late caution tightened the field as the high line was starting to come in. Shawano’s Trent Nolan would use that groove to gain the advantage after the restart and go on to take the checkered flag. A rough start for the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods resulted in a time-shortened feature. Hollie Welch held the lead for the start of the event and Kevin Bethke led a number of the mid-race circuits, but 11th starting Tyler Sobiesczyk was not going to be denied with his new mount, debuting for the first time in 2022. By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (May 1) – On Saturday night, Shawano Speedway celebrated its Night of Champions, honoring the 2020 championship class. Webster’s Dictionary defines a champion as ‘someone who fights or speaks publicly in support of a person, belief, cause.’ Before the races, another champion’s life was honored as Bobby Bennett was remembered. Although Bennett never won a track championship at Shawano, it was only appropriate to honor his life on the Night of Champions. The IMCA Modifieds took to the track to open the features with Mike Mullen trying to extend his season-opening win streak to three. Kevin Feck looked to be the man to end the streak early on as he led the opening five laps. Further back in the pack, Andy Karl and Marcus Yarie, along with Jerry and Konnor Wilinski were waging a spirited battle with three-wide racing and competing slide jobs. Meanwhile, Mullen was dicing his way forward and with a power move grabbed second on lap six. Riding his momentum, Mullen took his spot at the lead [Read More]
By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 5) – One hundred forty-three racers were on hand to open the 2018 season at the Shawano Speedway on Saturday and Johnny Whitman won the IMCA Modified lidlifter for the second year in a row. Joey Taycher kicked off the Modified feature by grabbing the lead on lap one. Whitman took the top spot on lap two and instantly began to pull away while Mike Mullen and Marcus Yarie began working their way through the pack. By mid-race, Whitman had built up nearly a full straight away lead as Mullen moved to second on the track after a pass on Taycher. Lap after lap Whitman led as Mullen inched closer. As the white flag flew, Mullen had cut Whitman’s lead to a few car lengths. As the leaders dealt with lapped traffic over the final circuit, Mullen was glued to Whitman’s rear bumper entering turn three. Whitman was not to be denied, though, as he beat Mullen to the checkered flag for the win. Yarie, Taycher, and Jason Czarapata completed the top five in [Read More]
