DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 6) – Sunday’s Merfeld Brothers Auto IMCA Modifieds feature at Dubuque Speedway was another nail biter as several drivers took their turns at the front.
Bryce Garnhart battled with Austin Moyer for much of the 20-lap main event before crossing under the checkers ahead of Moyer. Last week’s winner Jason Schueller turned in another fine run in taking third.
Defending IMCA national champion Tyler Soppe scored the feature win in the 18-lap GSI Collision Specialists Northern Sportmod main event.
Soppe fought to the front from a fourth row start to score the win ahead of early leader Justin Becker. Scott Busch followed up last week’s win with a third place finish.
By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 9) – Bryce Garnhart thought he would settle for second. Then the yellow light flashed in front of him due to the leader crashing. The defending track champion put the pedal down on the restart and cruised to the 25-lap Smokey Rupp Memorial Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified win Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I know it was bad for him, but it made me happy,” Garnhart said in Hoker Trucking / C&W Trucking/Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “Car ran great and I can’t thank everyone enough that works on this and supports us.” Hometown driver Austin Moyer helped lead the field to John Ryan’s green flag and quickly opened a large advantage. With a straightaway lead over Garnhart, who clawed from sixth in a competitive 22-car field, Moyer jumped the turn two cushion and banged the wall, ending his night on lap 19. By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (Aug. 25) – He tossed another helmet tearoff as the white flag flew. Matt Gansen’s car made it that final lap as he won the 20-lap Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified Season Championship feature Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway. “The car started to overheat and steam was hitting my faceshield,” a jubilant Gansen said. “I was using a tearoff every lap. I didn’t know what was going on on the track.” Gansen moved by early leader Jaden Fryer after several side by side laps on lap nine and extended the advantage. “It looked like (Fryer) was staying on the bottom and we were fast enough up top,” Gansen added. “I wasn’t sure if he would figure something else out so wanted to make the move.” Tyler Madigan also passed Fryer late. Track champion Bryce Garnhart and Timmy Current rounded out the top five. “It takes consistency and wins,” Garnhart said. “We put a lot of time in at the shop and I can’t thank my crew and sponsors enough.” Tyler [Read More]
