Thompson, Roth are IMCA winners at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 24) – Sunday racing action at Dubuque Speedway provided the fans with a thrilling night of action packed plenty of wheel-to-wheel action on Casey’s General Store Night at the Races.

Derek Thompson found the tacky track to his liking in scoring the 20-lap Merfeld Auto IMCA Modified feature. Thompson led the most laps in taking the checkers ahead of Austin Moyer and Matt Short.

Jason Roth won his second consecutive GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Roth took the point position after the midway portion of the 18-lap main and went on to cross under the flag stand ahead of Gage Neal and Troy Bauer.

$250 Sunoco bonus at stake Sunday for IMCA Late Models at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 29, 2024) – IMCA Late Model drivers get their next chance to race for a $250 bonus from divisional title sponsor Sunoco Race Fuels this Sunday at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. Sunoco also gives a five gallon fuel jug to the bonus winner. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods complete the sanctioned portion of the June 2 race program. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national, regional, Iowa State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. and racing follows 6 p.m. hot laps. Pit passes are $30 for adults, $15 for kids ages 7-13 and free for six and under. Spectator admission is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors ages 65 and over, $6 for students ages 12-17 and free for kids ages 11 and under when accompanying a paid adult.

Sunoco bonuses awarded at Independence, Dubuque this weekend

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 1, 2023) – Sunoco Race Fuels bonuses will be awarded when IMCA Late Models hit the track for big events this weekend at Independence Motor Speedway and at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. The divisional title sponsor awards $250 bonuses to feature winners on Saturday, June 3 during the Hall of Fame Night show at Indee and Sunday, June 4 on Fan Appreciation Night at Dubuque. Drivers can get the bonus one time in a season; the $250 will be awarded to the top finishing non-winning driver any night the winner has previously received the bonus. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow Saturday at Independence, where pit passes are $30 for adults, $15 for kids ages 6-14 and free for five and under. Gansen among Dubuque season championship checkers

By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (Aug. 25) – He tossed another helmet tearoff as the white flag flew. Matt Gansen’s car made it that final lap as he won the 20-lap Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified Season Championship feature Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway. “The car started to overheat and steam was hitting my faceshield,” a jubilant Gansen said. “I was using a tearoff every lap. I didn’t know what was going on on the track.” Gansen moved by early leader Jaden Fryer after several side by side laps on lap nine and extended the advantage. “It looked like (Fryer) was staying on the bottom and we were fast enough up top,” Gansen added. “I wasn’t sure if he would figure something else out so wanted to make the move.” Tyler Madigan also passed Fryer late. Freiburger Charges to Davenport Modified Victory

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 22, 2026) — Jed Freiburger captured the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature Friday night at Davenport Speedway, racing from seventh starting position to lead the final 10 laps of the main event. The race started with Charlie Mohr grabbing the early lead from the pole. On lap six, Brandon Durbin took over the top spot. When Mohr attempted to reclaim the lead, he spun and dropped back in the running order. Freiburger, from Dubuque, used the bottom groove to reel in Durbin before making the winning pass on lap 11. The victory was Freiburger’s second Razor Chassis North Central Region win of the season, with triumphs now coming at two different tracks. Wood Outduels Wauters in $1,000 Hobby Stock Thriller at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 22, 2026) — Friday night was another special evening of racing at CJ Speedway as the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks headlined the action with a boosted $1,000-to-win feature, treating fans to outstanding wheel-to-wheel racing on the perfectly prepared 4/10-mile dirt track at the Louisa County Fairgrounds. Daniel Wauters raced to the early lead from the outside front row and paced the field for most of the feature while constantly being pressured by Sigourney’s Brayden Wood, who charged forward from the eighth starting position. A late caution set up a thrilling dash to the finish. Wood got an excellent run through turns one and two as the leaders raced side by side down the backstretch. The pair remained door to door coming to the white flag before Wood edged ahead on the final circuit to secure the hard-fought victory by half a car length at the checkers.
