Shatzer Schools Virginia Sprint Series Field at Natural Bridge

NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (Sept. 19, 2026) — Dylan Shatzer is a schoolteacher by day, but Saturday night he moved the classroom to Natural Bridge Speedway and taught the Virginia Sprint Series field a lesson with a clean sweep of the evening.

Shatzer won his heat race before charging to the front of the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car feature and staying there through the checkered flag. Matthew Mullins was the other heat race winner.

Mullins and Billy Hubbard led the feature field to green, with Mullins getting the early advantage while Hubbard settled into second. Shatzer and Daren Bolac followed close behind.

Shatzer quickly worked his way around Hubbard for second and immediately began applying pressure to Mullins for the top spot.

The eventual winner swept into the lead, with Hubbard moving into second. Behind them, Bolac and Mullins battled for third while Jerald Harris began working his way forward from fifth.

Bolac eventually secured third, dropping Mullins to fourth, but his night came to an early end when front-end damage forced him to coast to a stop.

When racing resumed, Harris continued his march toward the front and took over third as the laps wound down.

There was no catching Shatzer, however, as he remained fast around the high side and raced all the way to the checkered flag for the Virginia Sprint Series victory.

Hubbard finished second, with Harris completing the podium in third. Mullins was fourth and Aaron Leach rounded out the top five.

The Virginia Sprint Series returns to action Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hagerstown Speedway for the Clash by the Creek. The program will include the makeup feature from the Aug. 1 rain-delayed event along with a complete night of RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car competition featuring the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, PA Sprint Series, and Virginia Sprint Series.

Natural Bridge checkers are second of season for Leavell

(Sept. 24, 2022) – A clear autumn race night had an unexpected rain delay but it didn’t slow Joe Leavell from jetting to the front to take his second Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Fan Appreciation Night at Natural Bridge had a fan meet and greet, after which a rain delay had the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars run a feature-only event. Caleb Harris and Bill Rice paced the field to green. Rice shot out front up high on the start and had Harris and Mike Leraas chasing. The track surface had changed from warmups after the shower and it was lightning fast as Rice continued to fly out front. Hendershot Captures Capitol Classic at Potomac Speedway

(Aug. 8, 2026) — With the nation celebrating its 250th anniversary, the Laurel Highland Sprint Series and Virginia Sprint Series visited the high-banked clay of Potomac Speedway in the Washington, D.C., suburbs Saturday night, where Donnie Hendershot captured the Capitol Classic for the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars. Heat race victories went to Matt Mullins and Hendershot as the fast, tacky racing surface produced multiple grooves throughout the evening. Ryan Lynn and Mullins brought the field to the green, with Lynn grabbing the early lead ahead of Matthew Leach, Hendershot, and Dylan Shatzer. An early caution briefly slowed the pace before Lynn resumed command while Hendershot settled into second and Shatzer and Daren Bolac battled behind them. Harris is first to repeat 2023 Virginia Sprint Series checkers

SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 15, 2023) – The Virginia Sprint Series got its first repeat winner of the season Saturday night as Jerald Harris streaked to a second straight IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory as black clouds rolled toward Shenandoah Speedway. Also the feature winner two weeks ago at Langley Speedway, Harris prepped for the main event by topping his heat race then, with inclement weather on the way, helped Daren Bolac leading the main event field to green. Harris stayed a little high and swept around Bolac to take the top spot as Aaron Leach made his way to third. Laps flew by on the pavement as Harris stayed smooth with tire management a priority. Pettit Shootout Brings Two Nights of Action to Watsonville Speedway Oct. 2-3

(Sept. 21, 2026) — Two complete nights of racing, a pair of Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying events, and a 103-lap Saturday Modified main event highlight the 16th annual Pettit Shootout at Watsonville Speedway on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3. Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods will compete both nights, with each program serving as a separate show. There will be no lock-ins from Friday to Saturday, putting every competitor back on equal footing for the second night. The Pettit Shootout is run in memory of Jim Pettit and Pat Pettit, the parents of event promoter Jim Pettit II. The number three carries special significance in the event because Pat’s birthday was Jan. 3, and that connection is reflected throughout the weekend’s format. Racing Returns to Yuma as Cocopah Speedway Opens New Era in 2026

(Sept. 21, 2026) — Racing returns to the Yuma area this fall as Cocopah Speedway begins a new chapter with a busy 2026-27 schedule featuring several major Speedway Motors IMCA events. The three-eighths-mile oval opens its 2026 season in October before hosting the Diamond in the Desert, Turkey Bowl, and Copper State Nationals. The schedule then carries into February with two weeks of Southwest Cactus Nationals competition. “We are so excited to get things up and running, and the whole community around here is super excited to have racing come back to the Yuma area,” promoter Travis Peery said. The season-opening weekend is Oct. 15-17, with practice Thursday followed by racing Friday and Saturday.
