ALTA, Iowa (May 27, 2026) — The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks produced the race of the night Wednesday at Buena Vista Raceway as Jay DeVries ripped the high side from sixth starting position to score his first B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season.
Mark White and John Briggs started on the front row of the Hobby Stock feature with Briggs getting shuffled on a restart after five laps. Kurtis Bonneson inherited the lead while Justin Frederick worked his way into contention behind him.
As Bonneson and Frederick battled fiercely for the top spot, DeVries found momentum around the cushion and surged to the lead on lap nine. The Spencer driver drove away from there while Bonneson held off Frederick for second.
Frederick charged from 10th to third while Drew Barglof crossed the line fourth. Will Smith completed a strong 12th-to-fifth run.
Masters Masters the Top Side for First Stock Car Victory
David Smith jumped to the early lead in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature while Mike “Wahoo” Albertsen and Bruce Bonnesen battled closely behind him during the opening laps.
Jake Masters steadily worked the high side from his ninth starting position and raced into the lead on lap nine. Bonnesen followed Masters’ line while Brian Blessington entered the picture late in the race after starting 12th.
Masters, from Graettinger, maintained the advantage to secure his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of 2026. Albertsen finished second while Blessington completed his strong drive in third. Smith and Bonnesen rounded out the top five.
Meyer Holds Off Fitz in Modified Main
Nick Meyer and Ricky Stephan led the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified field to green and battled intensely before Stephan secured the early advantage. Trevor Fitz soon joined the fight as the leaders raced three-wide during the opening laps.
Meyer eventually took command while Stephan, Jeff Stephens and Matt Bonine spent much of the feature battling over third position.
Whittemore’s Meyer held his line perfectly in the closing laps despite repeated challenges from Fitz to collect his first Razor Chassis North Central Region victory of the season. The feature also served as a Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational qualifier, placing Meyer on the eligibility list to attempt to qualify for the event during the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
Fitz settled for second while Stephan held on for third. Bonine finished fourth and Alex Reetz completed the top five.
Smith Slices Through Field for SportMod Victory
Brady Joynt and Bailey Stimson battled for the early lead in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature before Rusty Montagne worked his way to the front.
Mike Smith soon entered the battle after starting sixth and quickly sliced through traffic before taking over the top spot. The Lake City driver made quick work of the field and drove away from the competition.
Montagne crossed the stripe second while Joynt finished third. Garrett Neville climbed from ninth to fourth and Stimson rounded out the top five.
Volkert Capitalizes in Compact Feature
Cody Gorden built an early advantage in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature while Tyler Fiebelkorn and Dalton Woodle staged a fierce battle for second.
Levi Volkert worked his way into the lead on lap three before incidental contact between Gorden and Fiebelkorn slowed both drivers and allowed the Correctionville racer to pull away.
Volkert, from Correctionville, slipped past the battling leaders after starting third and drove away for his fifth victory of the season and second straight at Buena Vista Raceway.
Fiebelkorn recovered to finish second while Brooke Osler edged Woodle for third. Caine Mahlberg rounded out the top five.
