Changes come to qualifying for IMCA All-Star Invitationals

VINTON, Iowa (Dec. 20, 2024) – They say everything changes and for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational, those changes will be good.

Both events return to the schedule for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, the fifth annual B & B All-Star race for Stock Cars to the Thursday, Sept. 4 program and the 22nd annual Fast Shafts All-Star race for Modifieds to the Friday, Sept. 5 card at Boone Speedway.

Drivers in both divisions must have won sanctioned events paying at least $1,000 to win to become eligible for two rounds of fast time qualifying; drivers in either division who won sanctioned events paying $5,000 or more will be guaranteed starting spots in their respective fields of 30 cars.

Previously, Stock Cars had to win events paying $750 and there were no automatic qualifying berths for Modifieds. Two provisional starts will be awarded for each invitational, to top eligible drivers in national points and the top drivers in 40-points feature wins competing at Super Nationals who do not qualify.

“The number of cars competing nation-wide in these two divisions and the recent record numbers of Stock Cars running at Super Nationals are reason enough to make formats more similar for what are two of the most popular races of the week at Boone,” explained IMCA President Brett Root.

What All-Star events will pay to win and start is to be announced, as tracks will pay $50 for each qualifying event they hold through Sunday, Aug. 24, the final date for qualifying in 2025.

“Officials at tracks hosting All-Star qualifying events will be required to notify us of those race dates when they submit schedules for 2025,” noted Root. “Based on 2024 All-Star events, this should put another $10,000 in each All-Star feature event for 2025 as 100 percent of the promoter-paid fees will be added to existing All-Star purses.”

“What we want to be able to do when tracks send schedules with the dates of All-Star races is publicize those events before, and the winners after on our social media platforms,” he added. “That would be a win-win-win scenario for the driver, the track and for IMCA.”

Winners of 259 Modified events, 13 of which paid $5,000 or more, were eligible to qualify for the 2024 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational while the winners of 200 Stock Car specials and weekly races, nine of which paid $5,000 or more, became B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational eligible.

The Modified All-Star race started with 10 cars, with the field expanding to 12, 20 and then 30 since 2012. The Stock Car All-Star race has fielded 30 cars since its inception.

IMCA.TV will broadcast both nights of the Aug. 30-21 NAPA Double Down Prelude and the complete week of the 43rd annual Super Nationals Sept. 1-6 at Boone.
