JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Sept. 21, 2024) – Kollin Hibdon wasn’t just happy about the bucket list win.

He was happy about getting his name on the T-shirt.

Hibdon led all 25 laps of Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Jamestown Speedway’s Stock Car Stampede, earning $3,069 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility along with the bucket list checkers.

Plus, he’ll see his name on the souvenir T-shirt sold at the 54th annual Stampede next September.

“We’ve been in North Dakota for a few years now and it seems like we’ve won just about every special but this one,” said Hibdon, a Nevada native who just celebrated his 21st birthday late last month. “It means a lot to me to be able to win this race and I’m excited to get my name on the T-shirt.”

The first 20 laps ran green; Travis Hagen and Zach Frederick headed the pursuit of Hibdon but never challenged and finished 2-3 behind him.

Hibdon is headed back to his home state shortly. He’ll do some racing out west with his dad and follow Winter Nationals in Arizona before returning to North Dakota next spring.

Jonny Carter and Gabriel Deschamp were both $2,053 winners in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod features, respectively.

Already a three-time Stampede street stock winner, Carter became B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational eligible with his Saturday win; Deschamp had won the  Stock Car feature last fall.

“Jamestown has been good to me. I have a lot of laps here, “ said Carter, who rolled around Dan Aberle on a restart and swapped sliders with Randy Klein before finding the fast groove on the very bottom line. “This race means a lot to all of us in North Dakota.”

“This is the race that any North Dakotan wants to win,” he continued. “To win it again is pretty surreal, especially this year.”

Carter’s cousin Hunter won Saturday’s street stock feature: His uncle Todd is a five-time Stock Car  Stampede winner during his own career.

“The trophy and the money are cool,” said Carter, “but what you want is your name on the T-shirt.”

Deschamp had found a slab of concrete to remeasure his car on after going backwards in the Friday dash and made some minor changes to his set-up while in staging on Saturday.

He took the lead five laps into the feature, stayed on his game through each restart and took the low line to the win ahead of Ryan Restad and Darren Schatz.

“It was a good night. We had the car set up too tight last year and I wanted to prove I could come back and do better,” said Deschamp, who also went home with a T-shirt with his name on it.

“Winning here always means quite a bit to me. This is a big two-day event, the track is beautiful and it’s my opportunity to race the Fargo guys,” added the self-described ‘Minot Guy.’ “It’ a level field where we come once a year to race.”
