Confidence boosting qualifying wins go to Hollatz, Murty

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 6, 2024) – Chanse Hollatz and Dallon Murty will have big boosts of confidence on their side when the green flag flies for their Saturday IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s Championship event.

Hollatz impressed in a flag-to-flag run at the front of the field in Friday’s first Stock Car feature, holding off a bid by Matt Looft and then winning ahead of Looft, Tyler Pickett and 18th starting Casey Woken.

Already a two-time Super Nationals champion, Murty high-tailed it all the way from 12th starting, taking the lead from Justin Addison on the 25th and final lap to top the nightcap. Travis Barker and Troy Swearingen rounded out that top four.

Just a couple cautions on each side of midway delayed Hollatz in his drive to the checkers. Former Northern SportMod champion Looft caught picked for the runner-up spot and briefly pulled alongside the leader before Hollatz shut the door.

“This feels amazing,” he said post-race. “The beginning felt a little chaotic and I was a little worried but I just stayed in it. Now my confidence is sky high.”

The second feature ran caution-free and Murty had advanced into the top four by the time lap 14 was scored.

He caught Swearingen for third and Barker for second, then set his sights on Addison. He’d go to the top line with the white flag waving to take the lead and the win.

“It’s been a tiring week,” said Murty, already qualified for the Modified show. “This was a good night and now I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Top four finishers from each feature will head to the NAPA Fan Zone for a Saturday cornhole tourney to determine their starting spots on the outside row. Last-chance races complete the Stock Car field of 30.

Ward, McBirnie write more Prelude history at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 31, 2024) – Tim Ward made more history Saturday at Boone Speedway. Then Jake McBirnie wrote some of this own. Defending IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion Ward won the first of two Friesen Performance IMCA Modified features for his fourth consecutive victory during the NAPA Auto Parts Double Down Prelude. Brother-in-law and former Northern SportMod victor McBirnie then followed with a Modified win of his own, making him the first driver to win Prelude crowns in different divisions. Bucket list Super Nationals is next for Arizona’s Alves

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (Aug. 30, 2022) – Shelby Alves makes her next trip of the summer to the Midwest, coming to Boone Speedway to put the final checkmark on her 2022 bucket list. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod driver from Casa Grande, Ariz., qualified all five nights of the June Tougher Than Dirt Tour in North Dakota, and made the show at the 31st annual Harris Clash. From 18th, Knutson captures Hobby checkers at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 13) – Eric Knutson earned hard charger and feature win honors after starting 18th in the Saturday IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Boone Speedway. Knutson got past Bryant Johnson in the closing laps to capture the win.  Following second place Johnson was Daniel Smith in third, Curt Reed took fourth, and Jeremiah Andrews was fifth. Ricky Thornton Jr. followed his king of the hill triumph with the IMCA Modified checkers after starting 12th while Doug Smith repeated his winning ways in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main. Troy Jerovetz took command at lap four of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 20-lap feature and dominated to the checkers.  Race cars were not the first to hit the track at Boone Speedway on Saturday. It was the Boone High School Class of 2020 that got to parade down the frontstretch and take the checkered flag first.
