Blume scores big win at Maquoketa Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 9, 2022) – Saturday saw perfect weather conditions for an action-packed night of racing at the Maquoketa Speedway.

The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Austin Blume score his first win of the 2022 season at Maquoketa. Blume took off from his outside front row start and sailed on to the win by leading flag to flag. Blume took the win ahead of Jaden Fryer and last week’s feature winner, Matt Werner.

A strong field of 22 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars took the green flag for their 15-lap feature. Chase Zaruba also joined the list of first time winners in 2022. Zaruba took the win ahead of 12th starter Tom Schmitt with Jerry Miles advancing from the fifth row to take third.

The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods provided another action-packed race as drivers ran three- and four-wide throughout their main event. When the checkers flew it was Jesse Bodin taking the win by a slim margin ahead of Jacob Arp and Shane Paris.

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw the feature winner decided in the tech area where the apparent winner was disqualified due to an illegal carburetor. Drew Burk was promoted to the top spot and Dylan Flogel was elevated to second ahead of Randy LaMar.

Cyle Hawkins continued his hot streak in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. A hard crash eliminated the two Proehl brothers, allowing Hawkins to score the win. Henry Hess ran second ahead of Drew Wise.

Maquoketa Speedway will be idle Saturday, July 16. Racing will return on Saturday, July 23 with Hall of Fame Induction night at the races.

Deery Series doubleheader next at Maquoketa, Independence

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of famil­iar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start.  Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and free for kids ages 12 and under, while pit passes are $30. Werner scores first Maquoketa IMCA Modified win

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 2, 2022) – Racing returned to the Jackson County Fairgrounds Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday following a week off due to a rainout. A great field of nearly 90 race teams packed the infield on a beautiful Saturday night for racing.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature headlined the night of racing action that saw the final checkered flag of the night wave at 9:05 p.m. The 20-lap feature went caution free and saw Geneseo, Ill., driver Matt Werner score his first win at the ¼-mile Maquoketa Speedway. The track was wide and smooth and very racy with drivers using several lines which provided great racing all night. Werner advanced from a third row start and took the lead from early pace setter Austin Blume and went on to score the win.
