VIRGIL, N.Y. (June 27, 2022) – The biggest event of the season in New York and in the Dirt Works Eastern Region is in the works July 8 and 9 at Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park.
Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds race for $10,000 to win at the inaugural Summer Showdown at the 3/8-mile dirt speed factory in central New York.
“We want IMCA Modifieds to run for a big purse on East Coast soil,” explained promoter Brad Smith. “We want to get a bad fast bunch of cars here and when fans go home from this race, we want them to be thinking ‘that was a great show.’”
“We have already got a lot of response. A lot of people are looking forward to it and calling about the format,” he continued. “We want to show what the IMCA Modifieds from New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and so far as far away as Iowa are capable of.”
Pre-registration of $176 – 76 was the car number of former state champion Smith during his 10-year career in. the sanctioned class – and can be paid through MyRacePass by July 1. Late registration is $200.
An open practice runs from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, July 7. Qualifying starts on Friday with the top six cars from that evening’s $1,000 to win feature advancing to the main event.
Last-chance qualifying and the main event are on Saturday. Skyline’s weekly classes, including the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, will run on Friday or Saturday.
There is a minimum number of entries required for the Summer Showdown and if not met by July 1, the event will be canceled, pre-registrations refunded and a weekly program held.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing to follow both Friday and Saturday. Spectator admission is $18 for adults, $14 for seniors and military, $9 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $40.
IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded.
