Grabouski is double winner at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (April 20-21) – Defending track champion Shane Hiatt raced his way to victory lane on opening night of Eagle Raceway’s Ice Breaker Challenge. Former track champion Jordan Grabouski accomplished the feat twice on night two. Hiatt earned $1,000 and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth along with Friday’s IMCA Modified main event. Grabouski, already on the ballot, was best in Saturday’s $2,000 to win head­liner and pocketed another $500 for winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. The leader from the drop of the Friday night green, Hiatt ran ahead of Mike Densberger much of the distance before his challenger pulled into the infield with five circuits left. After a couple late restarts, Hunter Marriott wrestled the second spot from Grabouski. Dylan Smith and Eddie Belec completed the top five. Saturday featured another field filled with heavy hitters as Grabouski had to take the front spot away from Marriott and hold on. EAGLE, Neb. (April 2, 2023) – New car, same results. Jordan Grabouski made his first start in a new JGR Chassis a winning one, topping the Sunday feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Eagle Raceway’s inaugural Topless Nationals. The five-time and defending national champion battled Jeremy Mills in the late going before capturing the $1,000 victory, his career 278th in the division. “I was a little nervous. This is a new design and Justin Clark, Josh Houseman and Robert Brinkman have spent hundreds of hours in the shop,” Grabouski said. “Winning the first night out is always your goal but you don’t always achieve that.”  Mills, the Saturday winner at RPM Speedway’s Mike Hughes Sunflower Classic, had the fastest car much of the night while Grabouski worked his way up from fifth starting. (July 21) – On the night 180 bicycles were given to young fans, Joe Schidler four-wheeled his way to his first Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Northern SportMod feature win at Eagle Raceway. Schidler took the lead on the second lap and collected the Saturday checkers ahead of Gunnar Pike and Shawn Harker. “I couldn’t see what was going on behind me but I was hoping that it was the case that I was pulling away from the field,” he said. “The track was pretty good tonight, smooth in spots and tacky in other spots and that suits my driving style.” Dan Nelson made it to straight Runner Freight IMCA Modified victories and Kaleb Johnson earned his first local IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car laurels. Colby Kaspar earned his first Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock main event win and Trenten Fugett made it two straight in the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compacts.
