Sept. 3 Showdown brings six IMCA divisions to Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Lakewood, Colo., driver Tripp Gaylord was among the drivers earning season-first IMCA feature wins Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Last week’s races were rained out and Friday the track was dodging threats of rain, but the show went on as scheduled with 134 cars checking in for a full night of racing action. Tripp Gaylord, who is calling Iowa home for the summer, started 10th in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main and ran down then-leader Johnathon Logue by lap six with Todd Shute joining in the fight to make it a three-way battle for the lead. Gaylord managed to take over the top spot at lap 14 and then kept it the rest of the way to the flying checkers. Dallon Murty returned to victory lane in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Michael Jeannette got his second win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Travis Peterson saw his first winner’s circle visit in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Eric Knutson repeated in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Dillon Raffurty took first in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites, and Kolby Sabin won the MACH-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. The Northern SportMods took to the track first for their 20-lap feature. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 10) – Marshalltown Speedway wraps up 2018 with one of the top-paying events for IMCA Modifieds of the season. The $10,000 to win World Nationals special is Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 13-15. The 12th annual event is a qualifier for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. MCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $1,000 to win while IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks race for $500 to win both Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15. Qualifying starts on Friday for the Modifieds. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Tow money for the Modifieds is $250. Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. each day, with an open practice from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday preced­ing the Cookies BBQ Sauce Kickoff to the World Nationals.
