IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars run on opening night at Buchanan County Fair

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The first night of the Buchanan County Fair brings IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars to Independence Motor Speedway on Tuesday, July 6.

Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth; Stock Cars run for a $750 top check, with the winner becoming eligible to qualify for the B & B Chassis All-Star race.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded.

Entry fee for both divisions is $20. Pit passes are $30.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $15 for veterans and teens, $10 for kids ages 7-12 and free for ages six and under.

The evening’s Denny Osborn Memorial Late Model event honors the 1989 IMCA national champion, who passed away May 24, and is presented by Travis Smock and Peoples Company.

Aikey collects Sunoco bonus on record night at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 23) – One of Independence Motor Speedway’s winningest drivers went home with a bonus following his latest checkered flag run, on a record setting opening night.  The headliner of the night was the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature. Jeff Aikey drew the pole position and went on to drive the Rick Dralle-owned no. 77 to a comfortable win. The race went flag to flag with Aikey taking the win and first $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season over Eric Pollard and Sean Johnson.  Saturday mid-day rains made for very challenging conditions at Indee but thanks to the never say die attitude of co-promoter Justin Temeyer, the new season got underway on Saturday night with­out fans in attendance due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Great racing, memories fill Hall of Fame Night at Independence

by Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 18, 2022) – Saturday Night Independence Motor Speedway inducted the 2022 Hall of Fame class, including Rick Wendling, Darin Burco and Duane Van Deest for drivers. Special contributors inducted were Burco and Jerry Blue. Burco was the first to be inducted as a driver and contributor. Following a hall of fame meet-and-greet and autograph session, over 100 race teams signed in to tame the 3/8 mile dirt oval on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. The first feature of the night was the 15 lap Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod event. Robert Patava grabbed the top spot early, however Kip Siems stole the lead away from Patava on an early restart, Siems led until he slipped up on lap nine allowing Cole Suckow to take over the race lead. Opening night checkers at Indee are record tying third for Cordes

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 13, 2024) – Troy Cordes was quick to put a tough 2023 season in the rearview. Cordes won the opening night feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds for the record-tying third time Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. The checkers were also his career 143rd in the class dating back to 1996. “Last year we struggled pretty hard and only won once, at Columbus Junction,” said the Dunkerton driver. “Hopefully we’ll be back on track this season.” Cordes already had opening night trophies from 2000 and 2020 on his mantle.
