Three RaceSaver series run Saturday at Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Pennsylvania Sprint Series will join two other IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series this Saturday night for a Father’s Day Weekend special program at Hagerstown Speedway. 

PASS, the host Virginia Sprint Series and the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series will vie for supremacy June 19 on the half-mile track alongside Conococheague Creek in Washington County, Md. 

Four weeks ago, PASS regular Dave Grube invaded a VSS/LHSS co-sanctioned race at Hagerstown and came away with the victory. An earlier RaceSaver date was rained out. 

In 2019, VSS stalwart Jerald Harris was a winner, along with former PASS drivers Zach Newlin and Scott Ellerman. 

A large field of cars is expected Saturday, including Grube and the last two IMCA RaceSaver national champions, Ken Duke and Garrett Bard. Local entries are expected to include Donnie Hendershot, a PASS winner earlier this season, and Dylan Shatzer, a former LHSS winner at Hagerstown and a winner this season at Hesston Speedway.

It will be Kids’ Hot Dog Night at the speedway, plus Dads will get $5 off general admission with their kids.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with racing scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Adult general admission is $15 and pit passes are $30.

Leraas leads last half for Shenandoah Sprint win 

SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 23) – Mike Leraas made the most of his trip north to lead the last half of the race for his second Virginia Sprint Series feature win of the season Saturday at Shenan­doah Speedway. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green. Rice jumped out front with Ware in tow while Leraas and Tony Harris worked on Ware for second. Rice tried to get away as Leraas gained second and Harris took over third. Leraas went low and to the front, leaving Rice to race with Harris, which took five laps until he went to second. Leraas was out front as Harris was trying to chase him down. Glenn Worrell went to third as Rice faded with steering trouble. Spahr streak to six with latest Port Royal PASS checkers

(May 27, 2023) – The Logan Spahr dream season continued Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway when the Lewisberry driver captured his sixth straight River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature win of 2023 in the 20-lap race that was part of the Bob Weikert Memorial weekend featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions. The race ended up nearly a copy of the previous Saturday’s win (number five) at Selinsgrove Speedway: Spahr drew an advantageous third starting position for the feature, but then had to follow a determined early leader, in this case Jared Zionkowski. Spahr caught Zionkowski in traffic just past the race’s midway point and executed the winning pass on lap 14, going outside a slower car as Zionkowski passed inside. Spahr grabs first IMCA RaceSaver win

(Aug. 27, 2022) – After a couple of close-but-not-quite finishes at Selinsgrove Speedway, Logan Spahr was due, and the second-year Pennsylvania Sprint Series driver collected that debt Saturday night by scoring his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory Saturday after a torrid duel with veteran Doug Dodson. Spahr took the lead from Tyler Snook on lap three after some side-by-side racing. Then, after a red flag for an incident involving Mike Melair, Austin Reed, and Justin Mills on the front stretch, Spahr lost the lead to Dodson, who had charged from eighth starting. Undaunted, Spahr went after Dodson and the two swapped the lead back and forth until Spahr adjusted his line to take away Dodson’s preferred line. With the race staying green for the last 17 circuits of the 20-lapper, traffic also became a factor, but Spahr handled that situation like a seasoned veteran.
