IMCA Hobby Stock winner cashes $1,600 check Saturday at Cocopah

SOMERTON, Ariz. – IMCA STARS Mod Lites make their 2021 Arizona debut this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20 at Cocopah Speedway. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win along with Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational berths and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods run for $500 to win, while top prize for the Mod Lites is $250 each night during the Western States Dwarf Car Association Nationals.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Shaw Race Cars Western Region, KMJ Performance Arizona State and track points will be awarded.   Pit gates open at noon, the grandstand opens at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 4 p.m. both days. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military and free for kids ages 11 and under. Pit passes are $35.  An open practice runs from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday. By Ben Deatherage SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 14, 2023) – Five IMCA drivers won feature events and five more wrapped up IMCA.TV Winter Nationals in the Saturday night finale at Cocopah Speedway. Chaz Baca topped the rain-delayed but caution-free Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event, earning $1,000. Career win number 88 for the defending track and state champion, already Fast Shaft All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, came ahead of Brady Bjella and Brandon Beckendorf. Tim Ward’s 10th place run was just enough to give him the Winter Nationals title. Veterans Curt Lund and Mike Albertsen tussled ‘til midway of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car headliner, before Dylan Thornton motored by.  A late-race restart gave Thornton a clear track ahead and he sped to his second $750 checkers in as many nights. (Jan. 5) – Opening night of the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals presented by Yuma Insurance featured a very full pit area at Cocopah Speedway and saw Kollin Hibdon end his evening with the $1,000 IMCA Modified checkers.  The Pahrump, Nev., pilot took off from the rest of the pack at the start of the 25-lapper, powering his way around the Diamond In The Desert with nothing slowing down his pace but a lap two caution. Once racing resumed, Hibdon got back on the hammer for his first win of the 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing campaign.  His first career IMCA.TV Winter Nationals presented by Yuma Insurance main event victory also made Hibdon eligible to qualify for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.
