IMCA STARS Mod Lites new at East Moline Speedway

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – STARS Mod Lites become the fifth IMCA division on Sunday race programs at East Moline Speedway in 2021.

“We’ve had Mod Lites for about seven years. It’s a good class, a growing class. These cars are definitely quick and the drivers respect each other,” said new promoter and former car owner Jeff Peterson. “A lot of the drivers have been in them for years and it’s the class they bring their kids into.”

The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season opens April 25 and runs through Aug. 29, with four more race dates in September. 

East Moline becomes the first track in Illinois to sanction the IMCA STARS Mod Lites, which join IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on regular race programs. 

Special events are already scheduled for three of those divisions, with the Northern SportMods running for $750 to win on June 27, the Modifieds for $2,008 to win at the Aug. 8 Greg Durbin Memorial and the Mod Lites for $800 to win on Sept. 12.

An IMCA Late Model special is also in the works, with that date to be announced.

“We like the new IMCA sanction for the Mod Lites. It’s a good addition to our Sunday program,” Peterson said.

East Moline to reschedule Salute to Gary Webb event

(June 20) – Race fans had to grill out on Father’s Day instead of heading to East Moline Speedway.  Ahead of approaching storms, track officials postponed Sunday evening’s Salute to Gary Webb IMCA Sunoco Late Model special with guest appearance by Ken Schrader.  The amount of traveling race teams and high percentage of storms forced the decision. The event will be rescheduled for a later date to honor the 50-year racing career of Hall of Famer Gary Webb.

Strategy pays off for Denning with Durbin Memorial win

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (Aug. 8) – Travis Denning formulated the strategy as he circled the quarter-mile oval. Denning got the hole shot from his P3 start, had the lead before the first circuit was completed and ended up cruising to the 30-lap Greg Durbin Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. The second annual event was held to celebrate the late member of the prominent Durbin racing family and driver of the No. 8 Modified. Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Denning gathered $2,008 for the victory out of the nearly $8,000 up for grabs.  The Sterling, Ill., hotshoe saw a straightaway advantage vanish on Lap 11 when one of the only three cautions flew. Larson rolls out banner for 100th IMCA Modified win

FREEPORT, Ill. (Aug. 13, 2023) – Jeff Larson was beginning to wonder if they’d ever get to roll out that Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 100 Wins banner. The answer became a resounding yes on Sunday night.
