Madrid, Alves are Arizona Speedway aces

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (Feb. 20) – Two IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program divisions were on hand at Arizona Speedway on Saturday.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods were the two divisions on tap. Both divisions had healthy car counts and produced some enjoy­able action. 

Zachary Madrid took control of the first-place position on the opening start of the Stock Car main.  Madrid had firm control of the lead but did have to deal with several stoppages. The field would be slowed down on several occasions but each time Zachary remained in the front. 

Madrid went on to win his second Arizona Speedway Stock Car main of the season. Colorado veteran Aaron Spangler was second followed by Fairbanks, Alaska transplant and current Casa Grande resident, Scott Sluka.

The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event saw just a single caution.  Double-duty racer Bo Partain got to the point in the opening stages. After a lap five restart, Partain was accompanied by Chase Alves in a tussle for the lead. Alves, racing his wife Shelby’s entry, edged out Partain on the 12th circuit.

Once Alves took control he checked out from the rest of the pack. Alves would park it in victory lane while Partain held onto second. Bryan Miller got third.

Baca gets best win in Arizona Dirt Track Tour opener for IMCA Modifieds at San Tan Valley

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (Feb. 7) – A driver who’s already been busy racking up feature wins this season had a career highlight victory to talk about following the IMCA Modified feature on opening night of the IMCA Arizona Dirt Track Tour.  Chaz Baca got the best of Ricky Thornton Jr. in the $2,000 to win main event Friday at Arizona Speedway. The quick-paced 25-lapper at San Tan Valley ran caution-free and saw the front pair work through heavy traffic before Baca edged ahead and beat Thornton to the stripe by half a second. “That was the most exciting race I think I’ve ever run. Thornton is $1,000 Dirt Dominator winner 

By Mike Spieker QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (Feb. 8) – The second annual Karl Performance Arizona IMCA Modified Tour got underway Thursday evening with practice night at Arizona Speedway. Following the night’s practice session was the inaugural Dirt Dominator, a $1,000-to-win, 16-car bracket race for the IMCA Modifieds. Chandler driver Ricky Thornton Jr. walked through the field to capture the overall victory. Thornton topped Jake O’Neil in the championship round, utilizing the inside line starting position. “I knew it was going to be tough. Jake (O’Neil) has been really good,” Thornton said from victory lane. “I picked the bottom because I only ran one lap on the top. I knew I just had to get out front and not mess up.” Thornton took the lead coming to the flag stand off turn four after taking the green flag down the backstretch. Arizona Speedway sets Superstition Showdown for three IMCA divisions

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. – Three IMCA divisions runs each night of Arizona Speedway’s Feb. 12-14 Superstition Showdown, with the Sunday IMCA Modified winner taking home $5,000. All three Modified feature are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers, with $1,500 paid to win Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13 events. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $500 to win and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $750 to win Friday and Saturday.  Top checks in both divisions in the Valentine’s Day show on Sunday are $1,000.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and KMJ Performance Arizona State points will be awarded each night. IMCA Modifieds also earn Shaw Race Cars Western Region points and Stock Cars earn EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region points.
