IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods to open new season Jan. 2 at Antioch Speedway

(March 16, 2024) – Bobby Hogge IV kicked off the 64th championship season of auto racing at Antioch Speedway with the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win, his career 106th in the division. Rookie Jacob Mallet Jr. set the early pace. On the fifth lap, Hogge put it up on the outside In turn two and emerged with the lead. Kellen Chadwick swept into the second position and held it until mechanical issues sidelined him on lap 15. Hogge led Mallet and reigning State champion Andrew Pearce on a lap 16 restart but Mallet faded on the last lap as Pearce moved into second. Hogge picked up the satisfying win ahead of Pearce, Timothy Allerdings, Keith Brown Jr. of Greenbrier, Ark., and Mallet. ANTIOCH, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds are in the running for a $5,000 top check at Antioch Speedway’s Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3 Bill Bowers Memorial.  The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier pays $2,500 for second, $1,250 for third and a minimum of $200 to start. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods race for $2,500 to win and a minimum of $150 to start, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $100.  Qualifying starts Friday night; last-chance races and the main events fill the Saturday card.  Entry for car and driver for both the Modifieds and Northern SportMods is $200 and $50 each night for Stock Cars.  No spectators will be allowed in the grandstand and drivers and crew members must wear face masks when outside their pit area. ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 23-24) – A driver who says he’d rather be lucky than good was both Sunday at Antioch Speedway. Collen Winebarger three-wheeled his way to the $2,200 IMCA Modified checkers, completing a sweep of the Covid 19 special/George Steitz Memorial despite a tie rod broken in an early-race dustup with an infield tire. “I was super embarrassed because I thought I’d given it away. I was lucky that was all that broke,” said Winebarger, from Oregon and making just his career second visit to the California speedplant. “I had no steering on the left side at all but was fortunate the yellows that came out late got lapped traffic out of the way.” He’d started from the pole and got too close to that tire about seven circuits in.
