Shryock scores IMCA Modified feature win at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (July 18) – Kelly Shryock stated in victory lane that it had been a long time coming to get a feature win at Boone Speedway, but at the end of Saturday’s 20-lap feature for IMCA Modifieds, that is just what he did.  

Shryock had to fend off some tough competition close behind him much of the race as Randy Havlik, Paul Nagle and Collen Winebarger jousted for position.

Nagle made the move around Randy Havlik in the closing laps as they finished second and third, respectively. Winebarger would take fourth place and fellow Oregonian Grey Ferrando took fifth.

The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was a nail biter right down to the final mo­ments.  Devin Smith finally broke from the pack and began to catch up with frontrunners Justin Nehring and Jay Schmidt.  He did so with just a few laps remaining, and with the help of a lapped car on the final circuit, dove low and stuck it to sneak around both Nehring and Schmidt and beat both to the checkers.

Eric Knutson made a charge through the pack of IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks after starting 11th and grabbed the lead on lap ten of the 15-lap event.  Dylan Nelson took several peeks in the clos­ing laps for a way around Knutson, but fell short and had to settle for second.

After a call back on the initial start of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main, the race went green to checkers. Dusty Lynch reeled in leader Robert Moore and held that lead the rest of the way to the checkers and the win.

Discount coupons for Friday Super Nationals show now available at select NAPA locations

Schmidt repeats in Stock Cars, Gustin, Anderson, Christensen, Glick see first Boone checkers of 2023

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 8, 2023) – A huge field of 177 cars filled the pits at Boone Speedway on Saturday night and provided fans with a full night of racing action. Jay Schmidt repeated an earlier win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, while first-time wins this season went to Jimmy Gustin in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Logan Anderson in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, Riley Christensen in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Joe Glick in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites. The Mod Lites ran a 15-lap feature, which did not start well. As the race went green, two cars rolled over coming out of turn two and the race was red flagged until the chaos was cleared. Thankfully, the drivers, Mike Kennedy and Garrison Anderson, were both okay.
