Berry tops Sunday Modified main at Benton County

VINTON, Iowa (June 7) – For the first time in 2020, fans were allowed to attend the racing action at Benton County Speedway. A good crowd attended the event that saw 121 race car drivers take part in the action on Sunday night. 

The headliner of the evening was the 20-lap IMCA Modified main event. Defending Side Biter Chassis North Central Region champion Tom Berry Jr. from North Dakota found The Bullring to his liking.

Berry took the green flag from the seventh starting position and quickly shot into second and hounded the car of Troy Cordes. On the 13th lap, Cordes slid out of the groove in turn four and gave Berry the opening he was looking for. Berry shot into the lead and drove on to the win ahead of Joel Rust and Cordes. 

The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main feature belonged to Brayton Carter, who took the lead before one lap was completed and went on to lead the entire 20 laps. Ben Chapman ad­vanced from his 10th position start to finish a strong second ahead of Joe Docekal.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature turned into a family affair as the father and son duo of Da­mon and Dallon Murty swapped the lead several times during the main event. Dallon overtook his fa­ther just before the white flag was waved and went on to score a hard-fought win. Scooter Dulin picked up the third spot. 

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks provided the fans with lots of action, when the checkered flag waved it was Nathan Ballard making his way to victory lane. Ballard raced to the win ahead of Kaden Reynolds and Jake Benischek.

Hibdon wins second straight at Benton County

By Jerry Mackey  VINTON, Iowa (July 12) – Fisher Towing & Recovery of Garrison sponsored the mid-season champion­ships at Benton County Speedway on Sunday night on a near perfect weather night for racing. The Bullring provided everything the race fan could ask for. The IMCA Modifieds saw Kollin Hibdon charge to the front from his third row start and take com­mand. Hibdon scored the win over one of the hottest drivers in the Midwest in Tom Berry Jr. Berry advanced from the eighth starting position but could not catch the strong running Hibdon in settling for second.   Twenty-seven Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod drivers signed in and the feature saw plenty of action. Tony Olson quickly worked to the front from his fourth row start and set up a battle with his cousin Kyle Olson. The two Olsons dominated the main before Kyle jumped the turn one cush­ion late in the race and fell back to a fourth place finish. Bullring opener set for Sunday

VINTON, Iowa – With the annual season-opening Frostbuster special in the books, the weekly points opener is next on the schedule at the Benton County Speedway Bullring this Sunday, April 18. Five IMCA sanctioned divisions are set to do weekly battle on the Bullring throughout the 2021 season, including the 96.5 KISS Country Modifieds, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto, Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Kwik Star and Mach-1 Sport Compacts presented by Auto Crafters.  Pit gate and grandstand both open at 3 p.m., with hot laps at 5:40 and racing to follow. General grandstand admission is $13, seniors and veterans $11 and students ages 6-14 $5. Kids five and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. Gustin, Olson race to IMCA wins on Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Night

VINTON, Iowa (June 10) – Richie Gustin and Tony Olson took home the top checks from Benton County Speedway’s Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Gustin started third in the IMCA Modified 20-lapper and took the lead from Brennen Chipp with just a few circuits scored. Gustin pulled away before the seventh starting Troy Cordes found the fastest line and began making up ground. Cordes closed on Gustin and nearly drew even until a late caution. Gustin then pulled away for the $1,000 victory while Dripps worked past Cordes for second. Also the winner of 2015 and 2016 IDN/Urbana 5 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod features, Olson started third row and raced the low side to the front early on.
