Dodge City Raceway Park shifts practice to May 23

DODGE CITY, Kan. – In the ever-changing environment of the current COVID-19 coronavirus culture, Dodge City Raceway Park has shifted its open practice to a tentative date of Saturday, May 23, rather than the previously scheduled date of May 16.

Following the tentative practice session set for May 23, pending further developments, Dodge City Raceway Park will now kick off the season with a URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car showdown along with a full slate of championship chase action including IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks on Saturday, June 6.

In an additional schedule adjustment, the seventh annual SportMod Mayhem North vs. South Duel will now take place in conjunction with the Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals on Aug. 20-22.  The Thursday portion of the event will serve as a practice night for the IMCA Modifieds with heats and qualifiers on Friday and then the $1,500-to-win main event on Saturday.

Originally slated to run in conjunction with the DCRP Sprint Car Nationals, the eighth annual Modified Stampede has been shifted off the Aug. 20-22 date due to scheduling conflicts.  The track is actively searching for an alternative date for the event.

The Aug. 15 event that was the originally scheduled IMCA SportMod Mayhem will now serve as a Prelude to Mayhem with the IMCA SportMods accompanied by IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Dodge City Raceway Park officials along with city, county and state officials will continue to monitor current developments and make any adjustments if necessary.

Dodge City checkers fly again for Sproul

(Aug. 8) – Dakota Sproul made it two in a row in the IMCA Modified ranks Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.  Sproul held off New Mexico’s Cory Davis after a late caution flag to post his third DCRP win of the sea­son.  After starting sixth, Sproul spent the early going working towards the front as Kevin Gray set the pace.  Sproul made it to second by the fourth lap and then slipped underneath Gray in turns one and two on the sixth round to take command. With Sproul setting sail, Davis made his way forward from the ninth position to take over second at the midway point. And when a caution flew with just six laps to go that nixed Sproul’s ad­vantage, Davis was there to mount a charge. Davis pulled alongside exiting turn four with three laps to go, but Sproul countered and slipped away to secure the victory. Into the championship stretch at Dodge City Raceway Park

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – With another successful Lewis Automotive Group Driver Appreciation Night in the books at Dodge City Raceway Park, another pair of events are on the docket for this month at the state-of-the-art facility in southwest Kansas as the final portion of the 2018 season kicks into gear. The most recent card atop the 3/8-mile clay oval on July 27, played out before a packed grand­stand with Brendon Gemmill coming up just two positions short in the “Back to the Front Chal­lenge” that would have awarded a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu to a lucky race fan. Had he pulled off the win from the 20th starting position, some lucky race fan would have driven home with the new car. However, a caution-free 25-lapper didn’t allow Gemmill enough rounds to get to the front of the IMCA Modified feature as defending track champion Clay Sellard reeled off his third consecutive win. Dodge City championship chases to the critical stage on Saturday 

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – It’s getting down to the nitty gritty at Dodge City Raceway Park. And Saturday’s championship chase tilt is critical in points chases for each of the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Saturday’s racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m. Only two more nights of championship chase action remain after Saturday’s event including the Saturday, Sept. 1 Labor Day Weekend special and then the sixth annual Jerry Soderberg Memo­rial Championship event on Sept. 15. General admission for Saturday’s championship chase action at Dodge City is $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
