Gnat notches Norfolk feature win

(June 27) – Seven days ago, Justin Svoboda’s no. 16 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod was pictured beneath the no. 22 car of Tim Swartz on the front straightaway at Off Road Speedway.  Just a week later, Svoboda was celebrating his first SportMod win at the track, a big moment during what has been a difficult season.  “We’ve had a rough go of it so far. This is my ninth night of racing and this is only the fifth race that I’ve finished,” Svoboda said. “We’ve been fighting a lot of issues and trying to get this new car headed in the right direction, and it looks like it’s starting to go that way. It went pretty good tonight, sort of a change from zero to hero. (May 6, 2023) – Feature winners during Saturday night racing at Off Road Speedway typically came from a group of cars that broke away from the field early, then dealt successfully with challengers down the stretch. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, for example, saw a group of four cars, led by Terry Kester, pull away. As drivers maneuvered on both the high and low side of the track, seeking the best line, Tyler Afrank threatened to pass Kester while Cameron Meyer and Colby Langenberg competed for third place behind them. With five laps remaining, Afrank used the low side of the track to pressure Kester as Langenberg threatened Meyer on the high side. Both Afrank and Langenberg were briefly able to pass, but neither were able to hold position.   On the final lap, Afrank edged Kester at the finish line in the battle for first and second, and Meyer pulled ahead of Langenberg to take third. (June 11, 2022) – Familiar names once again found their way into victory lane during Saturday night’s regular slate of races at Off Road Speedway, but had to take the long way to get there. Cameron and Jason Wilkinson secured feature wins in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, while Cory Dumpert earned another IMCA Sunoco Late Model victory.  The odd man out was Tyler Afrank who, after finishing among the top five just once this season, won an main event for the first time at Off Road Speedway in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod division. Afrank, starting on the outside of the front row, grabbed the lead immediately and stayed there all 15 laps while Jonathan Jensen and James Roebuck battled for second place behind him. Jensen’s advantage of starting on the pole gave him the edge for the first half of the race until Roebuck was able to pass with six laps remaining to finish second with Jensen taking third place.
