COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 5) – Jesse Williamson raced to his first Mohawk Metal IMCA Modi­fied feature win of the season on the second night of Cottage Grove Speedway’s Freedom Cup. 

Paul Rea set the tone early, blazing the trail the first four laps before Grey Ferrando took control.

Ferrando navigated his machine in the top spot until lap nine. Williamson was the one to make the pass, driving his younger brother Kevin’s car, and held on for the balance of the distance for his first victory of the year.

Collen Winebarger ended his evening in second while Bricen James posted a third-place re­sult.  Finishing fourth was Rea and rounding out the top five was Jake Mayden.

The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature began with Jimmy Ford showing the way.  Ford battled hard with Aaron Bloom for some time. Bloom edged Ford at the line of lap three before Ford regained the position on lap 10.

Ford suffered a mechanical issue while in front of the pack on lap 13, handing the top spot over to Isaac Sanders.

Sanders lost the position shortly after the restart to Braedon Hand, who cruised the rest of the way to the win.

Sanders placed second while Jorddon Braaten finished third. The rest of the top five consisted of David Schmidt and Matt Sanders.

Mayden, Bloom, Ashley find the right groove at The Grove

(July 18) – For the second occasion in 2020, the engines roared at Cottage Grove Speedway with a full pit area at the historical ¼-mile clay oval Saturday night. More than 30 IMCA Modifieds inhabited the house for their second race of the year and Jake Mayden had his way with the field in earning his first local checkers of 2020.  John Campos wound up second with third going to Bricen James.  The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods would witness a giant-slaying as  Hunter Bloom was large and in charge of the main event.  The Eugene racer took control of the lead on lap one and remained there after the final circuit.  It marked the first occasion that Bloom has graced victory lane in the division at The Grove. Towns tops Cottage Grove IMCA Modified main

(July 16) – Curtis Towns raced to IMCA Modified win number two of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway Friday night.  Paul Rea was the early race leader in the main event.  The veteran chauffeur set a fast pace until his driveline spat out, on lap five, sidelining him for the rest of the race. Inheriting the lead position was Towns.  Towns stayed in the coveted position for the balance of the distance despite feeling brief periods of pressure. Towns scored his second win of 2021 in Cottage Grove competition. Eston Whisler was a strong second, followed by Ryan Baker. The rest of the top five was made up of Steven Sturdevant and Paul Culp.  For the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, young Madilyn Ashley set the tone in the early goings of that feature. The young lady from Jasper maintained first place until being overtaken on lap 10.
