Wheatshocker Nationals this weekend for United Rebel Sprint Series

HAYS, Kansas – A staple on the series schedule happens as the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing heads to RPM Speedway this coming Saturday and Sunday for the 11th annual Wheatshocker Nationals. 

This huge two-night IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event will be held in conjunction with the Ellis County Fair in Hays.

Sunday night’s championship finale will pay $2,000 to the winner. Also, a new Custom Pit Boss Pellet Grill will be awarded to the highest point earner for the two days courtesy of Lance Pittman and S&W Supply of Hays. 

Pits will open at 4 p.m. Pit passes will be $30 or $10 for and kids ages 12 and under accompanying a parent or guardian. Gates open at 5 p.m. Fair general admission will be an individual fair pass for $20 (purchased prior to July 12) or a gate ticket price of $15 each night. 

The green flag will wave at 7 p.m. each night.

There have been 10 different Wheatshocker Nationals championship feature winners in the 11 events that have been held with C.J. Johnson the only driver to have won this event twice.

The list of drivers who have reached victory lane on the final night of this annual event are: Jake Martens (2018), Andy Shouse (2017), Brian Herbert (2016), Zach Blurton (2015), Jake Bubak (2014), Ty Williams (2012), Kasey Beckham (2011), Johnson (2010), Patrick Bourke (2009) and Johnson (2008).

United Rebel Sprint Series back in action at Bob Salem Memorial

OBERLIN, Kansas – The Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing returns to action this Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15 for the Bob Salem Memorial at Oberlin, Kan., Speedway Friday’s event will pay $700 to the winner. On Saturday, the feature winner of the Bob Salem Memorial finale will take home a $1,000 payday.   Races are slated to begin at 7 p.m. both nights. Admission is $20, kids ages 7-12 $5, and kids 6 and under free.  Jake Bubak captured the feature win in 2019 on Friday night’s event while Jason Martin was the Saturday night Bob Salem Memorial finale feature winner.  The Bob Salem Memorial will be streamed live on Speedmax TV (IMCA.TV) for $15 each night or $25 for both nights.

Martin denies Day for URSS victory at 81 Speedway 

PARK CITY, Kan. (May 27) – Jason Martin took the lead in the early stages and then held off a late-race challenge by Michael Day to claim the United Rebel Sprint Series 25-lap feature finale during at 81 Speedway’s Sprint Car Maynia II Sunday night. The 10th starting Martin passed both Colby Estes and Day in taking over the front spot just seven laps in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car headliner. His first encounter with the back of the field began on lap 11 while holding onto his half-stretch lead at midway. With drivers utilizing the top and bottom of the 3/8’s mile oval, passing was intense throughout the event. With five laps to go, it appeared Martin would be able to cruise but Day closed the deficit to five car lengths with four laps to go. Rebels team with Sprint Series of Oklahoma for Memorial Weekend doubleheader

By David Smith, Jr., OKTidbits  OBERLIN, Kan. – Two of the premier IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car groups in the nation face off during the Memorial Weekend as the POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambel­ton Ford Racing and the Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Prod­ucts are geared for a weekend double-header.  It all starts on Saturday night, May 25 at Longdale Speedway in Longdale, Okla., before heading to 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kan., for a special Sunday night event.  Saturday will be the only 2019 appearance between the two series at Longdale, where the track has hosted two previous events. Both tours got rained out in 2018 but it was 2017 when the URSS and SSO met and it was three-time and defending SSO champion Andy Shouse of Oklahoma City getting the best of a 20-car field.  In 2016, 26 cars were pit side and it was Ness City, Kan., driver Luke Cranston picking up the victory.
