Oliver repeats at Pepsi Lee County Speedway

DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 7) – John Oliver Jr. went back-to-back with his second consecutive Budweiser IMCA Modified feature win Friday at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway.

Levi Smith and Mitch Boles led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 18-lap event, with Boles grabbing the early lead over Smith and Jeff Waterman. Boles held the top spot until lap three, when Waterman got under him.

The second of two restarts saw Waterman jump back out front, John Oliver Jr., who started eighth, and Brandon Lennox, who started ninth, close behind. Oliver followed in Waterman’s tire tracks over the next seven laps, waiting for an opportunity to get the lead away from him. 

Coming off turn four to complete lap 16, Waterman slid up the track, which allowed Oliver to shoot under him for the lead. Oliver then held Waterman off over the final laps to claim his second win in a row at the track. Waterman was second and Dennis LaVeine finished third.

Austen Becerra lead the final five laps to pick up his second local Roberts Tire Center IMCA Northern SportMod win of the season at the track, breaking Daniel Fellows’ four-race win streak. 

Jon Orwig held off Brandon Reu over the final laps to claim his first Discount Tire & Service IMCA Sport Compact win of the season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway.

IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds will both Drive For Five, $5,000 paydays at Lee County

DONNELLSON, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Late Model and IMCA Modified drivers will both Drive For Five at Pepsi Lee County Speedway in 2021.  Seven qualifying features are scheduled for each division, with $5,000 to win main events for the Modifieds on Friday, Aug. 20 and for the Late Models on Saturday, Sept. 11.  Drivers in both divisions must compete at a minimum of five qualifying features to be eligible for the $5,000 winner’s shares in the respective finales.  All seven Late Model qualifiers will pay $1,000 to win; payout for the Modifieds is to be announced. The Aug. 20 finale will be a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier.  Drive For Five dates are Fridays April 2, April 30, May 14, June 25 and July 2; Saturday, July 31; and Friday, Aug. 6. Rain date for one or both $5,000 to win shows is Saturday, Sept. 18. Hanna, Becerra top opening night Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway. All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two. The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot. While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win. Kay defends Lee County Drive For 5 finale title

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (Sept. 11) – The Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For 5 finale for IMCA Sunoco Late Models took place Sept. 11 at Lee County Speedway. This is the second year for this mini-series to be held, with defending race winner Justin Kay claiming the checkered flag in the 50-lap feature. Kay and Darin Duffy earned front row starts. Kay took advantage of his starting spot and jumped out into the early lead over Duffy and Matt Ryan. While Kay paced the field out front, Duffy, Ryan and Tommy Elston, who started fifth, battled for the runner-up spot. Action was slowed on lap nine for back-to-back cautions. The second restart saw Kay back out front with Elston overtaking Duffy for second. Two more quick cautions followed, with Kay staying in the lead and Duffy getting second back from Elston.
