Hunt takes home Tri-City trophy

(May 24) – Tanner Pray cruised to his first-ever Allstar Performance IMCA Modi­fied feature win on Outdoor Adventures Night at Tri-City Motor Speedway.  With other venues canceling earlier in the afternoon, the field was again bolstered with 29 drivers hoping to find their way to victory lane. Brody Bowser and Don Sautter battled during the first seven laps of the 20-lap feature. Sautter had the field covered until he lost power in turn four, ending his night with a premature exit and what proved to be a 19th place finish.  Former track champion Myron DeYoung inherited the lead. He had his hands full during the se­cond half of the race as Matt Szecsodi  and Pray pressured him through every corner. AUBURN, Mich. – On Friday, June 22, a member of the Tri-City Motor Speedway safety crew was injured during a rain delay in the regular Friday night race show. After a brief, unexpected rain shower, race officials announced a rain delay until the track conditions could be brought back to a safe racing condition. It was during this process where a worker, Pete Badgero, was injured after falling off the tractor he was driving. The safety crew saw this happen and immediately tended to Badgero with emergency medical attention. With the tractor still in gear, it continued across the track, which is where a video circulating the Internet picks up the event. This process of prepping the track is not very exciting so many people in the stands never saw Badgero fall. Their attention only turned when the suddenly unmanned tractor careened across the track into the retaining wall. PORTLAND, Mich. (June 23) – After winning $2,000 on Friday night, Jeffrey Reay came up just three dollars short of matching that career-topping total in the second installment of the Eastern IMCA Allstars the following Wednesday. Reay led all 30 laps of the June 18 IMCA Modified feature at Tri-City Motor Speedway. He outran defending Dirt Works Eastern Region champion Mitchell Hunt and former regional king A.J. Ward to the $1,997 checkers on June 23 at Thunderbird Raceway. “We’ve got some tough guys we run against,” said Reay, one of 28 entries at Auburn, one of 37 at Muskegon and already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “We’re going to keep taking the wins as we get them and not get a big head on us.”  He’d started outside pole at Tri-City and dueled with Ward before winning ahead of Brenten DeYoung.
