Labor Day Weekend special on tap Saturday at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The penultimate round of 2018 championship chase action atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas is set for this Saturday night, Sept. 1.

Saturday’s Labor Day Weekend special card at the state-of-the-art facility includes a full card of Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Thus far in 2018, a total of 185 different racers have competed in at least one round champion­ship chase action at Dodge City with 31 different competitors making their way to victory lane in 46 overall features.  This past weekend’s tilt offered up four first-time winners on the season with only IMCA Hobby Stocker Duane Wahrman making a return visit to the winner’s circle after his fourth triumph of the year.

Several championship battles continue to hang in the balance with only the sixth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event on Saturday, Sept. 15 remaining on the regular season fol­lowing this weekend’s card.

Gemmill snares Dodge City IMCA Modified Stampede glory 

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 19) – Brendon Gemmill made a dramatic, late move to take the $750 winner’s share in Saturday’s 25-lap IMCA Modified Stampede at Dodge City Raceway Park. Following a caution with five laps to go, Gemmill slipped under R.C. Whitwell on the 23rd round and held on to post his 14th IMCA Modified feature win at Dodge City Raceway Park since the 2012 season. “I really don’t know if I needed that caution or not, but it definitely played into our hands,” said Gemmill, who spent most of the 25-lapper chasing the duo of his father Troy Gemmill and Arizona’s Whitwell as they swapped the point three times along the way in an entertaining battle. Dodge City championship chases to the critical stage on Saturday

And Saturday’s championship chase tilt is critical in points chases for each of the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Saturday’s racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m. Only two more nights of championship chase action remain after Saturday’s event including the Saturday, Sept. 1 Labor Day Weekend special and then the sixth annual Jerry Soderberg Memo­rial Championship event on Sept. 15. General admission for Saturday’s championship chase action at Dodge City is $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Fast start sends Williams to opening night URSS victory

DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 24) – The Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicked off its season atop the 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval of Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday. Twenty-one cars were in action for the season opener as Ty Williams claimed the victory. Williams and Connor Atkinson set the early pace for the 30-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with some heat from Jeremy Huish and Luke Cranston. On lap three, Huish got past Atkinson and lap four saw Cranston passing Atkinson and Huish to take second.   Williams, Cranston, and Huish remained in the top three while defending URSS champion, Zach Blurton made his march forward from the 10th place starting position. Cranston pull several slide jobs on Williams only to have Williams cross under and continue to lead.
