Sweet victory for Berghahn at Bumblebee Nationals

ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night.

National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately.

From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins.

Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five.

Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.

Salute to Veterans checkers fly for Logue following first Kossuth County feature win 

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (July 21, 2022) – It was great night that started early with a loud bang that most people thought was fireworks and ended in the wee hours of the next morning with a louder bang after a great evening of dirt track racing.  The sixth annual Salute to Veterans Hunting with Heroes Night on Thursday at the Kossuth County Speedway was another home run. The event that has become the biggest event of the year of the track took place in front of a grandstand full of veterans and fans. Johnathon Logue and Randy Brands were $3,500 winners in the evening’s headline events, the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, respectively. Wolf back in winner’s circle at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski                                                                              ALGONA, Iowa (June 17) – It has been a while since Austin Wolf has piloted his no. 72 rig into the winner’s circle. But the Algona IMCA Modified driver tossed that monkey off his back on Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Wolf grabbed the lead immediately on the opening circuit of the track before surviving a caution flag on lap number five and a late challenge from Kelly Shryock for his first feature win of the season. Shryock finished second as Ben Schultze had a nice run for third. Nick Meyer was fourth and pole-sitter Mat Hollerich rounded out the top five. Shryock is double winner on opening night at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 4, 2023) – The force was with Kelly Shryock on Star Wars Day. Twice. Shryock won both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main events Thursday at Algona while Matt Looft ruled in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Josh Sidles paced the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. The Stock Car feature saw Shryock grab the early lead and build a comfortable advantage. Derek Green slowly erased that advantage, however, and eased ahead a couple of times but Shryock continued to hold the lead at the flag stand. With just two laps left, Green got tangled up with a lapped car and damage to the right front of his car ended his night and Shryock went onto the win ahead of Chad Palmer and Devin Smith. The 20-lap Modified feature saw Brandon Beckendorf lead the first eight laps before getting tangled up with a lapped car on the back straightaway.
