Smith makes last-lap pass for Keystone checkers 

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 30) – Zach Newlin picked up his first-ever Pennsylvania Sprint Series win Saturday at Port Royal Speedway Saturday night. Along with being a huge win for the entire team it was a fulfillment of a promise as Newlin dedi­cated his biggest win to William Sweger, who passed away July 15, 2017, at the young age of 12 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Newlin later said he was “damn near crying” for the final three laps of the make-up event from May 5. Newlin had started on the pole and may have breathed a sigh of relief when perennial favorite Jeff Miller got caught up in a early tangle with Dave Grube. YORK HAVEN, Pa. (June 22) – Defending champion Zach Newlin held off a determined last-lap effort by rookie Jake Frye and claimed the victory in Saturday’s Pennsylvania Sprint Series fea­ture race at BAPS Motor Speedway. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win was his third this season with PASS, following seven in 2018, and his second at BAPS.  Newlin led the caution-free 20-lapper all the way but had to edge fellow front-row starter Dominic Melair to the front before withstanding the efforts of teenager Frye, running the most impressive start of his young PASS career.  Frye, who started fourth, passed Melair for second on lap five and then closed on the veteran Newlin in traffic over the last half of the race before trying a slide job going into the third turn on the final lap.  Newlin’s high-line momentum carried him out of the fourth turn in front, however, and Frye fin­ished on his bumper. (July 8, 2023) – Austin Reed squeezed past Zach Rhodes on the outside after a brief but furious battle for the lead and went on to win the 20-lap River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. It was the second straight win at the Snyder County oval for the veteran from Etters, who finished second in PASS points last season, and it came on a night that saw misfortune strike several front-runners, while those with better luck entertained the fans with some great on-track action. Reed claimed a victory margin of 1.77 seconds at the checkers.
