JEFFERSON, Iowa (May 22) – Tacky track conditions led to a fast night of action Sunday night at Raceway Park.
The first of five IMCA divisions hit the track when the KISS 107 FM Sport Compact division headed out. Only one caution slowed the race at six laps to go with Luke Jackson holding onto the lead he took at the drop of the green flag. In the final dash to the checkered flag, it was Jackson taking the win followed by point leader Ramsey Meyer.
The Car Quest IMCA Hobby Stocks ran clean for the first six laps of the feature until the first yellow of the evening brought the field together with pole sitter Mike Hanson leading Andy Hoffman, Craig Clift, Ron Jensen, and Dave Riley. A tangle on the restart took Hoffman and Riley out of contention. Hanson held on for his first win of the year followed by point leader Aaron Shearn.
A.J. Boulware led the early laps of the MOPAR IMCA Northern SportMod feature until his uncle Todd Boulware made the pass for the lead with 10 laps remaining. In the closing laps, Todd Boulware and Kaleb Kennedy pulled away from the field to finish in that order.
The Casey’s General Stores Stock Car feature was the wildest of the night. Mel Elsberry led the early portion of the race before the first caution came out with 11 laps remaining. The second restart saw Chris Mills complete his charge through the field, taking the lead within a lap. At the checkered flag, it was point leader Mills out front followed by Elsberry
The Total Motors Modified feature wrapped up the evening in grand style as defending track and national champion Chris Abelson powered from sixth to the lead in the opening two laps. A caution with 15 laps remaining brought the field together with Abelson out in front of Jason Schneiders, Jim Cole, Jim Thies, and Ricky Stephan.
The field ran fast and clean over the final laps with the exception of point leader Justin Zeitner, who fell out of competition with six laps remaining due to mechanical issues. At the checkered flag, it was Abelson out front by a full straightaway over Thies.
