Bowers takes opening night honors at Atchison County

ATCHISON, Kan. (May 6) – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds started their inaugural season at Atchison County Raceway with a bang on Friday as Steven Bowers Jr. won both his heat race and the feature.

Hall of Famer Tom Charles sliced and diced through the pack to a solid second place finish, challenging Bowers to the line. Matt Richards had an impressive run placing third with Clay Hale fourth. Other heat race winner Tyson Lanfermann raced his way to fifth.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw the best of the best take to the track with numerous different leaders throughout the race.

Tag Team Challenge winner Greg Keuhn took the early lead with Jim Powell knocking on the door before Brad Whitney entered the picture. Whitney used the high line to pass Keuhn and pulled out to a nice lead until hitting the berm in turn two and spinning out, taking him from the front spot.

Powell took over the lead and raced side-by-side with Rich Boyden. Powell pick up the feature win. Travis Neeley worked through the pack to finish second with Boyden third.  Steven Corning held of a very fast Chuck Ziolkowski to place fourth.

A fireworks display and the awarding of more than $1,200 in cash and prizes to the fans ended the evening.
