INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 23) – A strong field of 119 cars battled each other and Mother Nature at the Independence Motor Speedway Saturday night. Rain started to move in as the final two features hit the track but all main events were completed before the rain came in for good.

Bobby Hansen took the early lead in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature and was able to build a commanding lead. Tyler Bruening started 10th and worked through the field until he found himself second as lap nine was completed.

Bruening worked to chip away at the straightaway lead Hansen had built. By lap 15, Bruening caught Hansen and took the lead the very next lap. Bruening raced off to the win. Hansen finished second. Curt Martin, Tyler Droste, and Curt Martin closed out the top five.

Rod McDonald led the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds to green and led the first nine laps. Brennen Chipp ran side-by-side with McDonald before J.D. Auringer joined in the battle.

Auringer wrestled the lead away on lap 10 and got to the finish line first. Chipp completed his solid run with a second. Ronn Lauritzen worked his way by McDonald for third in the closing laps. After two- and three-wide battles, Scott Hogan worked his way to fourth. McDonald finished the night in fifth.

During the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car A-Main, Jason Hocken held the lead until he hopped the cushion coming off turn four. That’s when Roger Ciesielski worked by for the lead and eventual win. Hocken settled for second followed by Norman Chesmore, Jesse Brown and Kevin Rose.

In the Tenacity Graphics IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Tony Olson slipped by Kevin Hurst in the closing laps. Hurst tried a few times to regain the lead, but Olson was up to the challenge to take the win. Hurst finished second and Kyle Olson was third. Alex Zwanzinger started 20th, fought hard to finish fourth, and Lucas Lundry had to head to the pits to replace a flat tire but battled back for a fifth place finish.

Justin Hansen held off charges from Justin Lichty to win the Big Daddy Chassis IMCA Hobby Stock feature.

Next Saturday, Aug. 29 will be the final on-track event for 2015. Season championship night sees hot laps at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.
