WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Promoter Bob Harris is feeling a bit nostalgic these days, with the return next week of the Harris Clash to Hamilton County Speedway.
The special for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds was held at Webster City during its inaugural and second seasons in 1992 and 1993.
After stops at Boone and Harlan, the event found a more permanent home at Knoxville Raceway. When the July 16 event was rained out, however, Harris had to make the decision to cancel altogether or find a different venue with an open date.
That’s where Hamilton County Speedway and the new race date of Tuesday, Aug. 4 come in.
“It’s a neat deal. We had plenty of offers to host a rescheduled event and one of them came from Webster City,” Harris said. “I thought ‘What the heck, that’s where it all started.’”
“Back in the day (the late 1970s and early 1980s) I raced a Late Model there,” he continued. “I’m pretty excited about this. It’s going to be a lot of fun. The people at Hamilton County Speedway have done everything under the sun for us.”
In addition to earning a $2,000 share of the purse, the Modified winner becomes a candidate for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature pays $1,000 to win.
“There were 12 drivers pre-registered for July 16 who have asked for refunds but another 13 have pre-registered for next Tuesday,” Harris said. “And there are other drivers we know who always wait until the day of the race to enter.”
IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in both divisions. Home region points go to Modified drivers.
The Modified winner also receives a $500 bonus if his chassis builder is a Clash sponsor; the builder in turn receives a free advertising package on the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s broadcast and promotion video, valued at $1,500, from RACEFEEDX and IMCA.TV.
The Harris Clash will be broadcast live by RACEFEEDX.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m., the draw closes and the drivers’ meeting starts at 6 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $8 for students, $4 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children five and under. Pit passes are $30.
