Peebles notches first, Van Straten’s streak still intact

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 18) – Jesse Peebles scored his first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway, while Travis Van Straten kept his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car streak going, winning his ninth in a row.

Peebles started on the pole and survived numerous restarts and challenges from John Berna on his way to victory lane. The race was shortened to 15 laps due to the time limit. Jerry Wilinski fin­ished third.

Trent Nolan led the opening lap of the Stock Car feature before being overtaken by Dan Michon­ski, who was soon pressured by Van Straten.

With Michonski still leading on lap seven, a caution flag flew to bunch the field back up. Following the restart, Van Straten took to the inside, made his pass for the lead and led the rest of the race, picking up his ninth win in a row and 10th overall.

Michonski fended off Mike Schmidt to finish second.

Wyatt Block raced his way from sixth and into the lead on the opening lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. With Block still in control of the race, Tracy Wassenberg moved in to second on lap 10.

Block continued to lead the way until lap 18 when Wassenberg moved inside of in turns three and four to take over the lead. Wassenberg went on to win his third Shawano feature of the season ahead of Block and Lucas Lamberies.

Saturday, July 25 is Shawano’s annual Hall of Fame night. Chuck Buckbee and J.J. Smith will be honored.
