DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 30) – Hometown driver Josh Appel captured his first local checkers since the 2013 season finale Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.
After starting third, Appel slipped past early leader Austin Walker on the fourth round and then held off two-time and reigning track champion Jeff Kaup over the final half of the 20-lapper to become the third different IMCA SportMod winner in as many events this season at Dodge City.
Appel’s father Mike climbed from the ninth starting position to take third.
Clay Sellard stayed perfect in IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified action, surviving fuel issues for his third win in as many DCRP tries.
Making just his second Dodge City appearance, Jason Rogers battled past Marlin Hogie on the fifth round and led the rest of the way in the 15-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.
Cody Davis captured his second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature in three tries at DCRP this season.
Davis assumed the point with just two laps to go when Reagan Sellard was unable to refire following a red flag for a hard hit between Jason Cleveland and Zach McLemore in turn four.
