MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 1) – Team Gustin took home two feature wins Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway.
Jimmy Gustin and Trent Jackson started on the front row of the Coors Light IMCA Modified feature and it was Gustin grabbing the lead. He was comfortable out front before the only race caution was displayed on lap eight for debris.
Adam Larson took second away from Joel Rust and set his sights on the leader. Gustin, however, denied those challenges to take his 88th career win in the division and first at Marshalltown since April 26, 2013. Brian Irvine worked his way from 10th to third.
Brandon Williams took the early lead in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, then gave way to Ryan King on lap five.
King pulled away and appeared to be going on to take his first win at Marshalltown even with lapped traffic ahead but the caution came out with three circuits left. King had Williams, 12th starting Jenae Gustin and Clint Luellen right behind.
Gustin found the right lane on the restart and that allowed her to take the lead away and go on to the win. King and Jared Van Deest, rounded out the top three.
In the Miller Lite IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event, it was Jay Schmidt taking the lead early as the field behind was going three and four-wide in the early going. Donavon Smith worked his way from eighth to second and battled Schmidt while Michael Jaennette and Jeff Wollam battled for third.
Smith took the lead away on lap six and pulled away to take the win. Jaennette took second and Steve Meyer was third.
Tim Barber led lap one in the Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature but national point leader Austin Luellen took the lead away after starting sixth. Luellen was only slowed by a pair of cautions on lap nine. Luellen took the win over Eric Stanton and Andy Hick.
