Werkmeister is Stock Car series winner at WaKeeney

WaKEENEY, Kan. (May 26) – Casey Werkmeister made his move in lapped traffic and ended up in WaKeeney Speedway’s victory lane on Memorial Day.

Werkmeister topped the Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grill Great Plains Series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, earning $750 for his efforts.

Series point leader Mike Nichols had shot out to the early lead in the 25-lap event, chased by Werkmeister, Angel Munoz, Jason Rogers and Jeff Tubbs.

The top five remained the same at the halfway mark, then the lead duo got caught up in heavy lapped traffic before Werkmeister got by Nichols for the lead.

The top two continued to battle their way through traffic but Werkmeister held on for the win and the $750 paycheck.

Nichols finished in the runner-up spot in the caution-free race, with Rogers, Munoz and B.J. Wagoner rounding out the top five.

The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature also ran without caution and Cody Gearhart won his second Wakeeney feature of the year.

Daniel Gottschalk worked his way to the lead on lap 10 from his 10th starting spot and held off a hard charging pack to capture his third local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory of the season.

Eric Ross took advantage of his pole starting spot to motor his way to the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Kiowa Higdon earned his third WaKeeney victory and his second in a row in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
