Abelson aces Double Down Spring Nationals IMCA Modified feature

JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 18-19) – Chris Abelson and Karl Brewer were the big winners as Race­way Park kicked off its 2014 season with the WinnaVegas Casino Resort-sponsored South Da­kota Double Down Spring Nationals.
Abelson worked his way up from the seventh starting spot on Friday and flashed by Jason Schnei­ders to capture the $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature victory. Finishing close behind the new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier were Schneiders, Jay Note­boom, Chris Mills and Ricky Stephan.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw a last-lap pass for the win with Jason Ward sliding by Bo Lundquist. Aaron Cain topped Todd Gereau for the third finishing position.

Brewer took the Karl Sport Modified feature win over Rusty Montange, Chance Bracht, and Todd Boulware. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature went to Adam Armstrong. In the runner-up spot, it was Ron Jensen followed by Justin Regnerus and David Miller.

Defending national champion Ramsey Meyer was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner, topping Cody Thompson, Gabe Barclay and Don Tank.

Brewer earned the $500 Double Down bonus by winning again on Saturday. Boulware finished a charge from deep in the field to second followed by Chad Ten Napel and R.J. Merchant.

The Hobby Stock feature went to Dave Riley, who held off a strong late charge by John Cain. Jen­sen finished third and Jake McClure was fourth.

Tyler Thompson topped the 22-car Sport Compact field with a flag to flag run. Second went to Drew Johnson, followed by Nate Coopman and Cody Thompson.

Raceway Park begins its 2014 IMCA Championship season this upcoming Sunday with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and the first green flag dropping at 6:30 p.m.
