Little line takes Gottschalk to big Fall Nationals payday

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 5) – After finding a little line, Daniel Gottschalk took the big check at RPM Speedway’s Fall Nationals. A caution late in the 40-lapper helped open the door as Gottschalk topped the $5,000 Saturday night main event. “I didn’t know if I had a chance midway through but I found a little line and made it work,” said Gottschalk, who passed Tanner Black and Cody Laney for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “I don’t get real emotional but that was probably the most excited I’ve ever been after taking the checkered flag.” Once in front, he pulled away on the white flag circuit and took the win half a second ahead of Black, who’d raced his way up from 14th starting. Laney, Jeff Taylor and defending race winner Jordan Grabouski completed the top five. “We broke last year at Fall Nationals and DNF’d,” said Gottschalk, who started seventh this time around and wheeled a Slider Chassis. “This year we found some extra speed. IMCA Stock Car Shootout checkers get Grabouski $5,000 and cool trophy

HAYS, Kan. (May 29) – He’s enjoyed his share of success and then some at Hays in an IMCA Modified, but Jordan Grabouski wasn’t sure about his chances when taking the green flag in Thursday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout feature at RPM Speedway. After the 40-lapper, he wasn’t sure where to best display the cool trophy.  Grabouski worked his way up from ninth starting, drove between Mike Nichols and Kyle Pfeifer to take the lead before midway, and stayed in front to the $5,000 checkers at the inaugural event, presented by First Class Chassis. “I didn’t think we had a shot, from where we started and with so many good cars starting ahead of us,” admitted Grabouski. “But my car was lights out. I had a lot of corner speed. This race was the most fun I ever had in a Stock Car and there are probably 5,000 reasons why.”  A caution before halfway had bunched the field back up. Lapped traffic didn’t become a factor in the later stages and Nichols chased Grabouski [Read More]

Black was added to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while defending national champion Grabouski was already on the candidate list.  A late caution in the first feature worked to Black’s advantage, taking out traffic ahead of him and clearing out his preferred higher line for the last five laps. “I messed up last year. Jason Wolla got by me and I didn’t want that to happen again,” Black said following his first feature win of the season. “This year we were able to finish.” He’d taken the lead at the drop of the initial green from his outside front row starting spot and led by three seconds and more at several points, ultimately beating Grabouski to [Read More]
